I'm #listening to #redrising and no shade to the #literary craft of the series but I really #dislike the #roman #trope. It shows a lack of imagination in my #opinion. And I feel the same way about #suneater.

I finished 6 books in August 2026. Slowly making progress on Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive series. Those main books are chonky! So good, though. I'm definitely intrigued by the Cosmere universe and seeing some connections to Mistborn.

I also started listening to the Red Rising Saga by Pierce Brown. It's giving Ender's Game meets Hunger Games. Is Capture the Flag a trope?

My nonfiction selection for August was a graphic novel memoir that was highly recommended here on the fedi, Anxietyland by Gemma Correll. Y'all, I felt SEEN. Anyone who has experienced anxiety and/or depression would probably appreciate this one, though I'll warn that there is some alcoholism and pet death.

Red Rising Saga — PIERCE BROWN

Finished #RedRising today.  I'm still not sure how I feel about it, the it definitely felt like a slow burn but the ending definitely landed and had some nice highs in the finale.

I think in the end it just felt a bit too close to Hunger Games for me, though it does appear to be leaving that phase moving forward.  I'm still waiting on the next #DungeonCrawlerCarl installment so might dive into the next book in the meantime to see where it all goes.

I know everyone and their editor has reviewed this one. The story, world, writing, and characters are all phenomenal. The best part for me was how smart and creative the characters were in the last third of the book. I read the audiobook and sat grinning like an idiot for the last four hours! 9/10

Also, the audiobook performances across the series are incredible.

Well, rereading Red Rising made me once again yearn for a faithful and epic adaptation of this masterpiece. Instead of another Hunger Games prequel, they should have done this.

Ugh, Pierce Brown has ruined me with the Red Rising book series. I finished the 6th book a few weeks ago and can’t seem to get into any other books because I want to stay in the Red Rising universe. I know there’s supposed to be the final book out later this year, but that’s going to take soooo looong.
