I was in Stockholm, home of the Stockholm Resilience Centre, one of the world’s most important scientific institutes. As the holidays in Sweden starts after the summer solstice, I wasn’t able to make an appointment. But I cycled over to the university in the hope of getting a photo. Kardokai ecovillage in Lithuania. I’d marked the village on the map but hadn’t got in touch beforehand. When I call the ecovillage’s number Raimundas picks up the phone. I explaine what I am up to, that I am in the neighborhood and that I’d love to come and say hello.

The other day I posted a picture of just the frame for this trike as I was starting to build it. This is the completed beast which I've been riding for a few days now.

Super comfortable, 2 battery mounts (only one battery on this morning, but the idea is to be able to go a long ways or have the ability to do massive climbs without completely draining the charge), head and tail lights, 2 bottle holders, and a wireless charging phone mount (it was an option, I had to get it).

The motor kit is from Grin Technologies in Vancouver, and it's been injected with cooling fluid (which they call Statorade, lol!) to keep the temp. stable even on long climbs. (Hub motor overheating can be a real issue)

It will be interesting to see how long the brake pads last with the regenerative braking taking on the bulk of the load.

So far, so fun!

Registrations are now open for the next British Human Power Club race meet at Colchester Sports Park on the 9th of August. Nice smooth tarmac, good sightlines and sensible* corners make it the opposite of last weekend's twisty silliness at Hereford and Evesham. I'm also hoping that August means it won't be stupidly cold, like it was when we last went there in 2022 and I had to un-jam my chain with frozen fingers.

Am Montag gab es ein gemeinsames Treffen zum Mittagessen in Stadelhofen in der #fraenkischenschweiz . Zu 10 sind wir eingeflogen, bunte Mischung aus #velomobil en, #recumbenttrike und #liegerad .
Gestartet zu dritt über #forchheim , #ebermannstadt das Tal hinauf über #heiligenstadt auf den Nebenstraßen, zurück dann zu viert.
Es war herrlich, aber auch sehr heiß.
Kaffeestopp musste aber dennoch sein, frei nach @radlpit integraler Bestandteil und nicht verhandelbar, gut so!

I went for a short bike ride around the neighbourhood this afternoon, going through a few foresty areas on the way.

At one point I stopped to look around a second hand shop and spotted lots of identical DVDs, but also found a copy of the old 80s BBC series "Edge of Darkness", which has to be worth another viewing.

Oh, and DVDs from second hand shops are absolutely the best way to consume movies and old TV series, completely without enriching revolting billionaires like those who run services like #netflix .

In #HPV news, this amazing video of Yesterday's attempt by the #BHPC's Russell Bridge to set a new British record at the World Human Powered Speed Challenge currently taking place at Battle Mountain, Nevada.

The potatovision is a capture from his forward vision camera (the SeventySeven has no windscreen). There's some aliasing he doesn't get on his screen, but that's basically his entire view of the road. The nostril-cam is unflattering, but gives a whole new perspective on what it's like inside the bike.

Fingers crossed for another wind-legal run at some point.

Just finished sorting out the race files for the #BHPC event at #Bath #OddDown cycle circuit on Sunday. In which the weather threatens to be decent, and I will try really hard not to crash the Notso on the horrible bottom corner (and proceed around the hairpin at slightly above walking pace, no doubt).

I'd say that was a decent first attempt at riding Notso with the lid on, given the gusting crosswind. The restricted view of the horizon makes balancing weird.

In other news, still a couple more days before the close of registrations for the #WHPVA championships. Anyone over the age of 12 on anything human-powered can take part. Unfortunately, the camping pitches have now sold out, and late registrations aren't guaranteed a T-shirt (the order has now gone to the printers).

On Friday, I had one of the slowest #recumbent rides on my usual loop this year. 2 hours. Today, the same loop took me 20 minutes less. What changed?
1. Switched from greased chain to waxed chain
2. Switched from 1 3/4 inch #Panaracer tires to 28mm #Schwalbe One tires
