First ride after tube replacement went well. I checked all the tire pressures. I knew some would need it because I checked the good front tire yesterday and it was down. And then my mini-compressor needed charging again before I could get to the desired pressure. But the one installed yesterday and pumped by hand by the mech was a bit low as well, and the rear one needed more.
Hard as rocks ride (I wish I could have afforded full suspension), but no flats!

@ascentale From the answer, it sounded to me like speed/acceleration is a factor. That is, motorization makes it so the rim can go faster than the tube is going unless you create more friction that grabs the tube. #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Cycling #CargoBike #Recumbent

@rasterweb It's weird that the 'bent manufacturer went immediately to implying I was running tires low when I've ridden MANY different types of cycle, including e-cycles, and never had a problem like this once, much less twice in a couple weeks.
I really feel like there's a tendency from the person who answers me there to discount my experience and look for fault because I'm a woman (possibly also because I'm fat...they've met me).
But the fact that people have so many different answers, experiences, and approaches tells me I'm not far out of the average on this one. Even Schwalbe didn't blame it on pressure, but on e-cycles in general (speed...since they also refer to it being a motorcycle problem). #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Recumbent

OK, here's an update from Schwalbe US (where I had previously made a contact so I had an email).
They offered to make good on it even though they are saying this is something common on many tubes with e-cycles.

I was in Stockholm, home of the Stockholm Resilience Centre, one of the world’s most important scientific institutes. As the holidays in Sweden starts after the summer solstice, I wasn’t able to make an appointment. But I cycled over to the university in the hope of getting a photo. Eine Runde an den #main bei #schwarzach mit dem Milan, immer parallel zur A3, über #schlüsselfeld , #geiselwind , #wiesentheid . In Unterfranken war ich dieses Jahr noch gar nicht.
Es war brutal heiß.
Mein Café in Schwarzach hat seit diesem Jahr leider geschlossen, die fränkische Hausmannskost nebenan wir mir definitiv zu viel. Also zur Tanke, dort alles besorgt und an den Main gesetzt.
Dort alles braun und trocken. Der Main hat Wasser. -
Kardokai ecovillage in Lithuania. I’d marked the village on the map but hadn’t got in touch beforehand. When I call the ecovillage’s number Raimundas picks up the phone. I explaine what I am up to, that I am in the neighborhood and that I’d love to come and say hello.

In Gdansk I was looking for 250 oaks that had been planted in the autumn of 2025. I didn’t find them. What I did find, however, was a bronze statue of Ronald Reagan an Pope Johannes Paules II. That’s not surprising, as the oaks were planted in the Reagan park.

What is it like, cycling for the planet?, I ask myself. Good question I hear myself respond. That's what you get when you're on a solo trip. Because you have no one to talk to but yourself. You can't blame anyone else either when you have to push your bike trough a 16 kilometer long sandpit. You could blame the route app which you instructed to choose asphalt only en takes you to the sandpit anyway. Discovered something about Bosch e-assist on a recumbent trike today that shows that not all things designed with upright bikes in mind map over to more accessible recumbents...
When I got the flat, I thought I could make use of walk assist. I have a disability that affects my hands and arms and any time my recumbent breaks and I have to walk it, it is agony to do, esp for any great distance.
Unfortunately, the walk assist mode on the Bosch requires that you keep the button pressed down. Which on a recumbent when I'm walking alongside it means I'd have to lean over...which is the whole problem in the first place.
I'll probably need to write Bosch about this just so they know there's room for improvement.

Heute mit dem Milan durch das #aischtal den Kanal entlang nach #bamberg. Auf der Rückfahrt war erstmal noch alles gut, also über #forchheim nach #erlangen und dann wieder heim. Die letzten 20km waren dann aufgrund der Hitze und dem wirklich warmen Wind eher zäh 😔
Bin von normaler Cappy auf die neue Mütze umgestiegen, kein Sonnenbrand mehr auf den Ohren. Die Platte brennt auch weniger. 😁 -

Heute eine Runde zu dritt mit @s_masto und @radlpit . Durch das #aischtal den Kanal entlang nach #bamberg und @radlpit aufgegabelt. Zurück wieder gemütlich Kanal und noch eine kurze Pause für ein Eis.
Sehr zügig kam dann starker Wind auf und wir haben eilig zugesehen wieder heim zu kommen.Schön war´s.

Feierabendrunde durch das #aischtal am Kanal nach #bamberg . Auf halben Hinweg von einem Freund mit ZOX Z Frame aufgegabelt worden, ab ging’s zu zweit weiter. Hinzu gemütlich, auf dem Rückweg dann über die Hauptstraße mit etwas Dampf. Lustig wars.
Eine größere Fläche am Kanal wurde geflutet, jede Menge Vögel in der Abendsonne. Typisch für hier, viele #storche .
Zur Stärkung lecker Butterbrot mit #gurken aus dem Garten. -
I've been working on a secret project this month. 20 years ago I lived in the UK and decided I had to go on one epic bike ride before leaving the country so in July 2006 I cycled from Land's End to John o'Groats - the length of the country from the furthest South-West point to the furthest North-East. The route that I took was just over 1700 km and it took ten days of cycling. It was fun, but also quite dangerous. A lot of those km were on A-roads, some of them on dual carriageways which are motorway standard except that they lack a safe hard shoulder to pull over onto. In all honesty, I can't really recommend it.
Anyway, the secret project this month was to ride the distance of LEJOG while doing all the usual things that I do each month. I decided on 1407 km as the target as that's the shortest possible LEJOG route. No need to push myself too hard this time.
I only thought of this idea in the second week of July. I'd made a good start with the 200 km ride that we did on the first Sunday of the month, but I'd also had a couple of relatively lazy days so I had fallen behind the ~45 km a day required to finish the distance in 31 days but not by much (I told you it'd be relatively relaxed).

The other day I posted a picture of just the frame for this trike as I was starting to build it. This is the completed beast which I've been riding for a few days now.
Super comfortable, 2 battery mounts (only one battery on this morning, but the idea is to be able to go a long ways or have the ability to do massive climbs without completely draining the charge), head and tail lights, 2 bottle holders, and a wireless charging phone mount (it was an option, I had to get it).
The motor kit is from Grin Technologies in Vancouver, and it's been injected with cooling fluid (which they call Statorade, lol!) to keep the temp. stable even on long climbs. (Hub motor overheating can be a real issue)
It will be interesting to see how long the brake pads last with the regenerative braking taking on the bulk of the load.
So far, so fun!

Registrations are now open for the next British Human Power Club race meet at Colchester Sports Park on the 9th of August. Nice smooth tarmac, good sightlines and sensible* corners make it the opposite of last weekend's twisty silliness at Hereford and Evesham. I'm also hoping that August means it won't be stupidly cold, like it was when we last went there in 2022 and I had to un-jam my chain with frozen fingers.

Feierabendrunde mit dem Milan im Cabrio Modus… nicht die beste Idee heute. Rückwärts eine halbe Stunde durch 40l/h, aber ganz ehrlich: es war herrlich! Nass und mit Grinsen im Gesicht ausgestiegen, so muss es sein.
