there's a divide in the #recreationaltherapy field
qualitative vs quantitative
is the work about finding out how people think about the therapy they receive? or is it about measuring physiological changes? mental health is physiology. qualitative studies tell us the words people use but not what the reproducible effectiveness measurements are.

the good work is few and far between in #recreationaltherapy so here's a good one:
Comparing impacts of meditation training in focused attention, open monitoring, and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy on emotion reactivity and regulation: Neural and subjective evidence from a dismantling study (2022)
they used eeg to measure the effects of mental health interventions and found leftward hemispheric shifts in frontal alpha asymmetry

very productive meeting today on the #recreationaltherapy #review paper.
we made a resolution to choose our few favorite review papers already written in the field with a focus on finding aspects of structure that we want to mimic.
there are now five-ish people on the team. asynchronous teams don't seem to have sizes that are all that concrete since people can leave and join without notice. contribute what you want and do it when you want. try to predict the work you'll do, when it'll be done.
