I didn't have much luck asking for Bollywood film recommendations here, but I found a few that looked interesting nonetheless. We watched the first one at the weekend — Lagaan, from the early 2000s.

A somewhat predictable narrative but that was the point – we know what's going to
happen and we just enjoy the (long) ride.

It's about Indian villagers getting one up on the British in colonial times. Which is probably recommendation enough.

I loved the slower pace of the narrative and the long musical sections, of which there were only four or five.
The songs and choreographed musical set pieces are wonderful. Turns out Asha Bosle was one of the singers too.

Next up, a classic from 1960.

I'm realizing that my frustration about YouTube disabling recommendations for users without watch history is more rooted in the removal of a dopamine hit rather than true annoyance.

edited to add: thanks for all the suggestions. I knew this would be the right crowd. (^_^) it seems like my nextcloud might be the lowest friction option, so I'm giving that a try first. so far I'm liking how easy it has been to just upload my music and it just shows up, and I like that there are multiple subsonic apps I can try. and I didn't have to do anything extra to be able to stream from anywhere (except read the actual help file, of course, it's not just your nextcloud's regular url that you want to point your app to, but once I realized that, it was dead simple). job well done everybody, another victory for self-hosting~

original post: alright, Linux havers, what are we using to wrangle our music libraries these days? I've got a fairly large collection (~85 gb) almost entirely mp3s, and I need the capability of syncing to my phone. I use Ubuntu and android. I do have a nextcloud self-hosting setup, do any of you use that? is it good? a lot of these google responses are kinda old.

Here’s an interview by Maury Povich of Josh Johnson. #recommend Josh is just like he is in his videos. Even dressed the same. Maury says Josh is a conflation of George Carlin and Richard Pryor, and I see it. He’s a story teller. Just finished reading “Future Boy”, Michael J. Fox’s book about the making of “Back to the Future” that came out in 1985. It’s delightful, a quick read. #recommend
Fun fact: the red Gibson ES-345 that Marty played for “Johnny B. Goode” on, went missing after production ended. It’s still missing. Fox guesses it could go for seven figures, if whoever has it wanted to sell. Also that model came out in 1958, 3 years after the movie’s setting. People complain about that all the time. #bookstodon
