"Tandoori" chicken today because the ridiculous heat (42C "feels like" this afternoon) means I am cooking outside in the smoker this afternoon.

This cake recipe is a favourite birthday cake in our house. I made it for the first time 7 years ago for our 4th child, but my eldest has requested it every year since for hers, too.
She even baked it for me this year. (Last year, our 2nd child surprised me with this cake -- it's my favourite, too!)

It bugs my husband that I generally "wing it" when cooking for the family, but that's how it works when you've been cooking for a lot of people for a long time.
It bothers him because it means that a) he can't make the same "recipe" if he liked it, and b) there's a (IMO delightful -- I love the element of serendipity) lack of precision & consistency from one meal to the next.

I have to bake a birthday cake at some point today (to decorate tomorrow), but I'm also hoping to squeeze in a batch of these.
