Novel #reassortant #H2N2 low pathogenic avian #influenza virus in live #bird #markets in the Northeastern #USA, 2019-2023
Source: Avian Pathology, ABSTRACTThe H2N2 avian influenza viruses (AIV) have been reported in the Northeast United States of America (USA) live bird market (LBM) system since 2014. In this study, we investigated the genetic evolution and characterized molecular markers of the recent H2N2 AIVs in LBMs in the Northeast USA. Phylogenetic analyses…

Emergence of a Novel #Reassortant Clade 2.3.2.1c Avian #Influenza A/ #H5N1 Virus Associated with #Human Cases in #Cambodia
Source: MedRxIV, AbstractAfter nearly a decade without reported human A/H5N1 infections, Cambodia faced a sudden resurgence with 16 cases between February 2023 and August 2024, all caused by A/H5 clade 2.3.2.1c viruses. Fourteen cases involved a novel reassortant A/H5N1 virus with gene segments from both clade 2.3.2.1c and clade 2.3.4.4b viruses.…

#Surveillance of avian #influenza viruses in #Hebei Province of #China from 2021 to '23: identification of a novel #reassortant #H3N3, J Infect.: https://www.journalofinfection.com/article/S0163-4453(24)00174-9/fulltext
A novel reassortant H3N3 virus was identified, for 1rst time, in N China. Currently predominant subtypes of AIVs have been isolated from Hebei region. AIVs may have infected local #poultry, posing potential #risk of transmission to #human. These isolates may share a common ancestor with the Yellow River Basin isolates.

Characterization of #Influenza D Virus #Reassortant #Strain in #Swine from Mixed #Pig and Beef #Farm, #France, Emerg Infect Dis.: https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/30/8/24-0089_article
Influenza D virus was isolated from pigs on a mixed pig and beef farm in France. Investigation suggested #bull-to-pig #transmission and spread among pigs. The swine influenza D virus recovered was a reassortant of D/660 and D/OK lineages. Reported #mutations in the #receptor binding site might be related to swine host adaptation.

#Genomic #diversity and evolutionary #dynamics of #Influenza A viruses in #Colombian #swine: implications for one health #surveillance and control https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38970562/?utm_source=Feedly&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=None&utm_content=1fgJURi2yzLesFml6et0Bb6krzs_FrNIYgPYVFN50JPwVNFg9s&fc=None&ff=20240707003806&v=2.18.0.post9+e462414
We have identified #reassortant & recombinant viruses (#H3N2, #H1N1) not previously reported in #Colombia. This suggests a broad genotypic viral diversity, likely resulting from reassortment between classical endemic viruses & new introductions established in Colombia's swine population (e.g. 2009 H1N1 pandemic).

#Detection of a #reassortant #swine- and #human-origin #H3N2 #influenza A virus in farmed #mink in British Columbia, #Canada, BioRxIV, https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.05.27.596080v1?rss=1
This reassortant has been subsequently observed in swine in several #Midwest #American states, as well as in swine and #turkeys in #Ontario, suggesting its #spillover into farmed mink in British Columbia was incidental to its broader dissemination in North American swine populations.

Identification of a novel #reassortant #H3N2 avian #influenza virus based on nanopore sequencing technology & genetic characterization, Zhonghua Liu Xing Bing Xue Za Zhi, https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38678355/
This study identified a novel reassortant H3N2 avian influenza virus by nanopore sequencing, with #PB1 gene derived from #H5N6 avian influenza virus. Virus had a low ability to spread across species, but further exploration was needed to determine whether its pathogenicity to the host was affected.

Phylogeography and #gene #pool #analysis of HP avian #influenza #H5N1 viruses reported in #India from 2006 to 2021, Arch Virol.: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00705-024-06032-4
5 separate introductions of H5N1 viruses into India were observed, via #Indonesia or #Korea (02), #Bangladesh (09), #Bhutan (10), & #China (13, 18) (clades 2.2, 2.2.2, 2.2.2.1, 2.3.2.1a, 2.3.2.1c, and 2.3.4.4b). H5N1 virus isolated from human case showed a unique #reassortant gt. AA markers associated with adaptation to #mammals were present.

Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the Egyptian H6N1 strain A/Garganey/Egypt/20869C/2022(H6N1) has a unique genomic #constellation, with gene #segments inherited from different subtypes (#H5N1, #H3N8, #H7N3, H6N1, and #H10N1) that have been detected previously in AIVs from Egypt and some Eurasian countries.
