I started tracking ADS-B signals since before Thanksgiving and was hoping to see the impact of the holiday on air travel.

You sort of can, from the bit of the sky I can pick up, it's clear there's a dip on the 27th, and two spikes on the 29th and 1st.

It might be clearer if I could resample the data but I'm not too familiar with the tar1090 data format so I don't know how.

My #ADSB Tool for monitoring #readsb's JSON files on #RaspberryPi.

This is a #Python #cli (console) application and operates in near real time. When the data is written, it's immediately processed and displayed.

It stores the records in a small config file that is automatically created, and these values persist beyond reboots and restarts of the application.

Next to antenna upgrades, I also migrated from #dump1090-mutability to #readsb / #tar1090. One advantage of this is the unsupported historical recording / playback feature of readsb. But this took a perf toll on my RPI3 which already performs other tasks and duties already. And RPI's were in short supply last year. Solution: Virtualise my ADSB decoder & use my RPI3 as a USB-over-IP bridge to the VM hosted ADSB decoder & feeders downstairs.

Continuing on my weekly posts about #ADSB I thought this one I would focus on "How I added more CPU power without replacing my RPI3".

Previously I had literally just mounted my RPI and kit straight into the unfinished drywall in the attic, but came up with a more attractive mounting solution when my wife made the attic her new perm home office last year but I also made some real performance upgrades then too. (TBC in reply)
