  1. I know #bookreviews are a gateway to being in #library holdings, and that #librarians use reviews as a gauge of how much #readership a #book might enjoy, but like I decided that querying literary magazines was a waste of time, I'm rapidly approaching the point at which I will say the same about ##bookreviewers and ##bookbloggers

    I'm sure this works for many other #writers, and other #writersofmastodon may find it worth the time, but I'm not seeing the value vs spending that effort #writing

    I’d love to learn a bit more about my readers, so I’ve put together a quick (and anonymous) survey using Tally Forms.

    If you read my blog burgeonlab.com and have a minute or two, I’d really appreciate it if you could fill it out! Thank you. 🥰

  7. @twrling Sounds like a confusion of what the numbers mean. #Podcast downloaders are not necessarily #listeners. At the same time, one #download could be listened to by several people (for example in a car).

    An age old issue for newspapers: #circulation != #readership.

    I can see an ephemeral connection. If you are in a situation without internet connection (for example on an airplane), an earlier autodownload would allow you to listen.

    Unless DRM fuggs it up.

  8. Nomen est omen. Another remarkable study in #Scientometrics. Researchers tend to avoid journals with country-specific titles because they suspect that they have a limited readership, and many people associate "international" in a journal title with low-quality or predatory journals:

  9. A quotation from Franklin, Benjamin:

    «««««
    Mirth pleaseth some, to others ’tis offence,
    Some commend plain conceit, some profound sense;
    Some wish a witty Jest, some dislike that,
    And most would have themselves they know not what.
    Then he that would please all, and himself too,
    Takes more in hand than he is like to do.
