My hometown is now under surveillance. How dystopian is this? FFS
I hate it.

The After Dark venue in Reading was seriously good, for the bands. They got all the massive names before they became super famous. There'll be a list somewhere.
I swear I saw charlatans, stone roses, St Etienne and blur there but they don't feature in this list.
Also I saw Radiohead and Sultans of ping (I had a wee in the next urinal to the lead singer. He was topless, wearing sparkly hotpants)
All that in a sweaty 100 people venue run by the Carribbean community

@nicol There were several episodes of Endeavour that were (partially) filmed here in Reading, including one at my old school. Another episode used Jackson's, which was a really old-fashioned department store that had closed a couple of years earlier and still had all the fittings in it.

@stux I got the red one years ago at a trade show/conference -- I won it in a raffle at the Red Hat Linux stand.
The blue one and the Panama are both from the excellent local milliner here in Reading: https://www.adriennehenrymillinery.co.uk

Old guy (70's?) walking down the high street in Reading blasting out sounds from a portable speaker. I don't like this. Just because you like that music doesn't mean everyone does. Headphones exist. Also the song he was playing had the chorus "I took it up the arse, the devil made me do it"! Just casually blasting it out to young children and grandma's etc.

"Where did you get your talent?"
"From the devil, at a crossroads."
"At midnight, In Mississippi?"
"No, West Street and Broad Street in Reading. Midnight's too busy, so it was four in the morning, and the stupid bastard still nearly got run over by the number 17 bus."

@futurebird @davidtheeviloverlord @Pineywoozle @jredlund There's a monument in the old market place here in #RdgUK that has actual fasces (from which fascism was named) on it. It was built in 1804.

Hmm. BBC local coverage of the relocation of Reading's library:
"Reading's Central Library shut it's former home of 130 years in Kings Road in May."
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2w5veg36qo
Given that the old building was built in the 1980s (https://maps.app.goo.gl/9jF1a4uiAagmq7Vx9), I'm fairly sure that's not true. The location before *that* was in the old town hall (https://maps.app.goo.gl/5v7s3JS9tcqThdGB8), which is at least the right vintage of building for the sentence above.

@sabrinkmann
This is funny because Reading gets featured because a lot of posts mention reading not Reading.
I'm from Reading and know at least 4 other posters who are.
