Ray LaMontagne, Trouble, 2004 on RCA / Legacy
LaMontagne's debut major label album, put out in 2004 on RCA, and then on vinyl in 2008 on RCA & Legacy. (I guess they waited to see how popular it was before committing to a vinyl release - very 2004). Recorded and mixed at Sunset Recorders in Hollywood long before LaMontagne set up The Big Room, his home studio (paid for by this record?). Produced, recorded, and mixed by Ethan Johns (son of Glyn Johns). I still remember first hearing "Trouble" when it came out and just being spellbound by […]https://goatless.org/2026/07/26/ray-lamontagne-trouble-2004-on-rca-legacy

Ray LaMontagne and The Pariah Dogs, God Willin’ & the Creek Don’t Rise, 2010 on RCA
Fourth full length from New England's Ray LaMontagne (born in New Hampshire, has lived in Maine & Massachusetts) and the first credited to a band. The album was recorded at The Big Room at Apple Hill, on LaMontagne's property in western Massachusetts. Pariah dog is another name for Desi Kutta or Indian Pariah dog, though I always thought the band was some kind of pun on Prairie Dog and the idea of being a pariah. I don't think the dog on the rear cover illustration or the photos inside […] -

Ray LaMontagne - Trouble
I swear I've written about his LPs before, but I can't figure out where. Maybe it was on the bad place.
Anyway, given the new label, I think LaMontagne has his rights back, and is re-issuing his albums.
This, his debut, is a nice remaster (although my copy is a bit warped and pop-y in sections), and a really nice set of songs. You've likely heard the title track.
Think "soulful folk" for this one, but he pivots somewhat, later...
