Con más de ochenta años comenzó a grabar discos de metal sinfónico inspirados en la figura de Carlomagno.

Mientras otros actores de su edad disfrutaban de una jubilación tranquila, él grababa álbumes, participaba en festivales y colaboraba con bandas del género.
A los 91 años incluso consiguió entrar en listas musicales con una canción navideña metalera.En 2009 fue nombrado caballero por la reina Elizabeth II por sus servicios al cine y al teatro.
Para entonces ya había vivido más aventuras de las que la mayoría de las personas podrían acumular en varias vidas.Murió en 2015, a los 93 años.
Y quizá lo más curioso de todo es que, cuanto más se investiga sobre él, más difícil resulta separar la realidad de la leyenda.
Fue testigo de la última guillotina pública de Francia.
Conoció a uno de los asesinos de Rasputín.
Sirvió durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial.

Dmitri, his mother and his family were eventually exciled to the north where the entire family died of dysentery.
Varvara lived in poverty, unable to accumulate the funds to join her sister. She contracted tuberculosis, then typhus, passing away alone in Moscow in 1925.

Maria was the only one to escape Russia, having married an admirer of her father's, the couple fled through Asia to Europe. Maria took dancing lessons in excile, becoming a cabaret performer, then a circus act + finally, a lion tamer - until an attack by a bear ended her career.
