An #Osprey (#PandionHaliaetus) gives Fox (the #photographer) another side-glance. The #RiverHawk, as it is sometimes called, has excellent #vision, and can quickly dive down out of the air, nearly submerging themselves in the #water, to catch a #fish. They are also called #FishHawk or #SeaHawk. Their diet is mainly fish, but they will eat other small #animals. They rarely scavenge.
This osprey is siting on a pole at the #Apopka #Wildlife Drive. When Fox began triggering the camera shutter, the #raptor heard the sound and glanced around to make sure Fox wasn’t up to anything more than #photography.

For #throwbackthurdsay, a picture of a #northernhawkowl I observed hunting shortly after sunrise. Even though they are mostly non-migatory we get some that come down into northern Minnesota in the winter. It gets its name from the shape of its head (it's flatter than the heads of most owls), its long tail, its hawk-like flight pattern, and the fact that it hunts during the day.
