Tonight fuckin blew...
Chatters be crying in my damn twitch chat because I cannot read chat frequently. These people have to understand that my current setup is not a streaming setup with two monitors.
Chatters, I say this, you are NOT entitled to make people read your messages. Stop acting like that and just grow the fuck up.
As a matter of fact, why do I keep streaming to these people to begin with? Streaming is a habit! It's like a caffeine addiction that takes over an entire being.

Come on, #microsoft, it's 2025. How hard would it be to make #Outlook themeable.
Imagine using a solarized, catpuccin, nord or monokai theme in Outlook 🤩 instead of the current while-on-black and black-on-white. 😵
Even Win 3.1 had more color schemes than Outlook now. And you were able to add your own ones. In 1992!

Earlier today I had a fully functional VPS server, running caddy, which served up 4 web sites, perfectly. The files for those static sites were in folders owned by 'root'. (That becomes relevant soon)
The server also has docker running, so I thought I would install an app there which would provide web analytics for my sites (goatcounter).
I defined the docker compose file, started it up in docker and two things happened: goatcounter refused to run (never got to know why), and my 4 web sites started throwing error 403 (unathorized). They refused to load all of a sudden.
After much struggle, I moved the files for those sites to a new folder, made the 'caddy' user own the files and the 403 went away, but now I am left wondering how goatcounter could have caused that.
I get that caddy needs access to the sites' files, but it was running just fine before and I did not change the permissions on those files. This is the mystery I have no explanation for and it's killing me.

One of the most repulsive things you can find on the web are marketing disguised as tech blog posts. You search for stuff, then find something that looks like a useful blog post in the topic.
It starts by showing you how to do things you searched for using common tools. Once it has solidified your confidence, it lists the product to sell as the most viable option.
This is unethical. 🤮
For people using search engines, it is annoying and frustrating.
For others who rely on Copilot, ChatGPT etc., it's a perfect trap. AIs seem to be unable to tell marketing and facts aside, and the readers won't see the source, to realize the intention behind the article.
💡 An ideal search engine should downrank sites for posting any form of disguised marketing as delivering such results would undermine the reliability of the search engine itself.
💡 Also, a well working AI would not use such sites as source as to avoid damaging its own reputation.
Strangely, all common search engines and AIs gladly deliver false results, especially if they are paid for it, and most of the users are not aware of it.
The problem is that unbiased search engines and AIs, if they even exist, have a great disadvantage because they have to compete with competitors that make more money by deceiving users. 😤

Happy Stay Away From Bus Stop Bins Day to all. And again tomorrow. And Tuesday, because the bins here are emptied on Wednesday.
And a special Fuck You to people who drive their prawn heads, in their car, to the nearest bus stop and drop their smelly scraps into the bin so that the smell as they ferment bothers bus passengers waiting there.
Or you could freeze them until bin night, like any normal person might.
Anyway, don't even walk *near* a bus stop bin this weekend until after the next rubbish pickup day.

Thanks to the French National Library digital offer, I'm discovering lots of publications and I've just come across a British magazine on #BirdWatching.
It's almost perfect...
There's lots of advice, tests to help with identification, good addresses for observing species, an international focus, a column on urban birdlife (and it looks relatively inclusive).
It would be almost perfect if there wasn't a section on the photographer explaining why a particular photo makes him cringe and how we should take real photographs.
FUCK THESE ELITISTS! Can't we just enjoy the birds? Just enjoy the great outdoors? Do we need some guy with expensive gear to explain to us how we should enjoy OUR HOBBIES? How, even in our spare time, we have to be PERFORMING?
It's shit all over the place, at every level, and you can't even get away for 2 minutes without being caught out by control and the cult of effort and excellence. What are you? Photo fascists?

I am so angry right now.
I have been planning to buy a MacBook Laptop for the last 6 months, and today I got around to testing if my ham radio software would work under x64 emulation in Win11 ARM64 edution.
Of course it F**king doesn’t. The main piece of software that runs most of my radio stuff completely craps out on the Visual C libraries being x64 emulated.
With v7 of the software promising linux and Mac support, but with no solid timeframe, I’m now back to trying to figure out how to best upgrade my radio shack when Win10 reaches EOS.
Linux is no-go (you may have seen previous posts) - Rig control is only just barely there and the number of interdependencies that create additional conditions to make things work is just not making it practical for me.
Upgrading existing Win10 machine is no-go thanks to MS deciding there was a need to generate a heap of e-waste by locking Win11 functionality to only recent CPUs.
My other SFF machines will suffer the same CPU lockout fate.
Leaning into replacing apps with Mac equivalents is less than idea, as most of the ham radio app development uses the windows platform. I don’t need to make my setup any more niche than it already is :)
I’m thinking my only option at this point is to purchase a cheap Win11 compatible laptop and dedicate that to the radio shack and mobile operations.

@tursiops La saison 1 et 2 de SAO vont ensemble. Perso j'aime les séries quand elles racontent 1 histoire. Les films c'est une limite de temps. Les séries permettent d'aller plus loin en terme de narration. Mais le commerce veut qu'elle fasse de l'audience, peut importe si c'est du n'importe quoi... Et ça c'est mauvais. Et c'est presque toujours la raison qui rendent les séries impopulaires.

I've just spent the whole afternoon trying to find affordable car insurance. I thought it was bad enough last year that my premium went up by over £100 for no reason, but this year it has more than doubled!! I haven't even made a claim!
Such a joke. The insurance industry must be making a killing! Maybe I should change career!

That means don’t fucking knock on my door and pretend you didn’t see my sign. Don’t act like you aren't selling something when you literally have a clipboard in your hand recording sales. Don't stand on my front porch for 10 full minutes then leave a card. If you ain’t selling cookies, candies, etc. then I ain't interested.
If I needed a new roof, my #insurance is my first call, not some random company that can’t read signs.

In a continuation of yesterday's rant... I feel a total sense of dread and defeat today going into work. Computer literacy should be mandatory to get a job if it involves dealing with computers full time. Specially for HR and finance positions. You're dealing with people's sensitive information is not fair that you go unpunished for compromising people's data. #takingtothevoid #ranting

Of course, if my furnaces today used that design, I wouldn't be #ranting.
I have two #furnaces - at the time this home was built, it was the style here to put in two furnaces, one for the upstairs, and one for the main floor and basement. Kind of like a really #janky #zone system. I replaced both of them when I bought this #house.
Well, last #winter, the blower motor in one #died. It's kind of nice having two; the house was #chilly but #livable while I was getting it #fixed.
