Applying #Agroecology for #Sustainable #Rangeland and #AgriculturalDevelopment

#Mongolia

Funded by the European Union and BMZ and implemented by FAO and GIZ, STREAM+ (2024–2028) applies agroecology to improve livelihoods and ecosystem resilience in Selenge, Khentii and Khuvsgul aimags. Building on the earlier STREAM programme (2021–2024), the project combines agroforestry and ecosystem restoration, sustainable production and value chains, integrated landscape management, and policy and institutional development. Its interventions include rangeland reseeding, spring and water protection, beekeeping, sustainable beef and cashmere value chains, tree planting, shelterbelts, irrigation, nurseries, and deep wells. The project has already supported 30+ hectares of reseeding, protection of five springs, 30,000 trees planted, MNT 1.1 billion in agroforestry sales, organization of herders into producer groups, strengthened local planning capacity, and training for more than 4,700 people, linking ecological restoration with production, markets, and local governance.

Delighted to see our new paper out in Journal of Applied Ecology. We examine how #wildfire and #restoration interact with community composition to determine long-term #ecosystem dynamics. This work utilizes a unique 30+ year dataset from #sagebrush steppe in the Columbia Basin WA.

The Vegetation Drought Response Index for Nov. 27 shows that most of the U.S. is out of season as meteorological winter begins tomorrow. Drought affects some of the remaining vegetation in the southern and western parts of the country.

#Introduction

#AssistantProfessor at U. of North Texas #UNT. I study #BehavioralEcology (#BehaviouralEcology) and #CommunityEcology with #insect #pollinators. My lab focuses on how #GlobalChange affects pollinator communities and the interactions within those communities, including #bee #foraging behavior.

Current projects study pollinators in #rangeland and #SocialInformation use across insect functional groups. Also collaborating with #TPWD to assess #conservation status of TX #NativeBees.

I've just moved here from aus.social to be with my spatial peeps, so another #introduction is in order.

I'm a #fullstack #remotesensing #scientist working across #optical #sar and #lidar domains. With a background in #rangeland and #savanna #ecology, I build biophysical models using empirical and #machinelearning methods to get information back to the government, NGOs and the public.

Now getting more interested in applying #spatialscience to #systemsthinking for tackling #wickedproblems.
