Hm, I was seriously considering signing up for a short mixed-surface #ultracycling race in October. But as I reviewed the route in detail, I noticed that there are sections that go through private property. That doesn't give me a lot of confidence in the organizer. I probably should just ride a boring old brevet instead. Saves a lot of money and is easier logistically.

January 2024. I'm riding a 200km brevet with my friend George, from Elefsina (near Athens) to Nemea (on the Peloponnes) and back. It's 17:00 and soon we will be riding in the dark.

But the sea next to the old national road on the coast is so beautiful … and it reminds me of childhood vacations. As I wait a moment for George to catch up, I snap some fotos.

Wanted: Rennradfahris, Langstreckenfahris - für eine 24-Stunden-Sternfahrt über 500km.

Am 1. Mai um 9 Uhr startet der (die? das?) Flèche Allemagne. Ziel ist die Wartburg. Starten wollen würde ich von Freiburg durchs Elsass/Straßburg > Germersheim > Damstadt > Hanau > Fulda > Eisenach.

Bei einem 25er-Schnitt brauchen wir 20 Stunden - hätten also 4 Stunden Troubleshootingzeit.

Im Team sollte bei Helligkeit aber auch mehr Tempo möglich sein (28?), nachts vielleicht etwas weniger - zur Sicherheit.

Wir sind schon (noch unsicher) 1-3 Leuts und ein Team kann auch 5 Fahris bestehen.

Also wenn wer sowas auch noch nie gemacht hat und ausprobieren möchte - gerne melden.

Anmeldeschluß ist (leider) schon der 1. März.

Day 8 of trying to get my Rene Herse tires to seal properly. These tires suck, so I ordered up a pair of Gravel Kings and these are going in the rubbish bin.

The problem is that the sidewalls leak. I flip the tires on their sides and a little sealant inevitably seeps out the sides in a few places, but because the sidewalls flex while riding the sealant squeezes out and they start to leak again.

I literally can't ride 50 miles on these tires without having to air them up. My last experience trying to get Rene Herse/Compass Cycles to do anything about poor workmanship never went anywhere, so here I am, I guess I'm a hater ;-).

Liebe #Autofahrerinnen (#Autofahrer sind #mitgemeint), denkt bitte beim links #überholen von #linksabbiegern daran, dass euer vorhaben #überraschend ungut ausgehen könnte.

Habt eure #Waffen bitte besser im Griff (langsam fahren hilft! #tempolimit), denn in dem #Wartehäuschen schlafen ich und gleichgesinnte (#Langstreckenfahrradfahrerinnen, wieder mitgemeint, schon wissen) gelegentlich und #unerwartet warten dort auch Mitmenschen auf ihren Bus.

Eure begeisterten #Radfahrer, die dafür die Schuld tragen, dass ihr weniger im Stau steht.

Anlass ist diese Meldung:

"[...] Das Auto des 21jährigen wurde abgewiesen, kam von der Fahrbahn ab und in einem angrenzenden Wartehäuschen zum Liegen. Durch die Wucht werden Teile des Häuschens auf die Fahrbahn geschleudert und der Pkw des 39Jährigen beschädigt. Der Pkw des 21Jährigen musste von der Feuerwehr aus den Trümmern des Wartehäuschens geborgen werden."

The Paris-Brest-Paris ride is one I've thought about for years. I'm so out of riding shape and getting older every year that I doubt I will ever get a chance but, maybe, someday, who knows.

A couple of years ago I got into long-distance #cycling, in particular into #Audax rides (or #randonneuring).
I've done a few 200 km rides (two in March... I may have a hamstring tear from that), and last year my friend and I did 300 km.
But this May we plan to go to the next natural step: The Dauntsey Dawdle 400 km ride.
When I look to the map, my hands get sweaty, and my hr clearly rises!
Any randonneur in the room?

Happy new year #BikeTooter. Project for 2023 is to #restomod this old 1985 Trek 620 (with beautifully lugged Reynolds 531 steel.) Sigh! Woke up early this morning, packed lunch & snacks, and donned like four layers of clothes in an attempt to ride a 200k. Didn’t even make it 30 minutes before realizing that my and my partner’s glove situation just wasn’t going to cut it for the 10-12 hour ride. (My thumbs were ice!)

Took the train home, ordered pogies. Hopefully Thursday we try again!
