"Frag nach Andrea" von Noelle W. Ihli ist ein ungewöhnlicher #Thriller insofern, weil hier drei Frauen von einem Mann ermordet werden und ihn als Geister heimsuchen - aber damit fängt die Geschichte erst an, denn nun setzen die drei alles daran, dass die Polizei ihn verhaftet und dass er nicht noch weitere Leute ermordet. Was alles andere als leicht für die Geister ist. Finde ich spannend und empfehlenswert.

I may have found another page-turner, a satire: "Read between the Lies" by Jesse Q Sutanto. In general, I am interested in books about writers and this story sounds intriguing.

At the moment, I am #reading several (online) excerpts of books which I put on my wish list. I read the first couple of pages of Frances Cha's "If I had your face" which follows the life of four young women in South Korea. It sounds interesting, but in the excerpt there are descriptions of cosmetic surgery, and unexpectedly, this is like body horror to me.😬 Not my cup of tea.
(I cannot understand why young people get cosmetic surgery just to adhere to beauty standards.)

"Der Mary Shelley Club" von Goldy Moldavsky.

I've started reading a sci-fi, sort of dystopian, queer and maybe hope-punkish novel which has been on my pile to read too long: "Chameleon Moon" by RoAnna Sylver. And the beginning got me instantly hooked. 😀

  7. "the correct order of biscuits and other meticulously assembled lists of extremely valuable nonsense": ein paar listen sind lustig, manche sind einfach nur albern, die etwas verloren verstreuten illustrierenden bildchen hätte man sich sparen können – hat mich ein bisschen enttäuscht, das buch. aber immerhin gibts squirrelcontent und librarycontent. :)

Here's a tip for all you #book lovers/ #bookies out there: When you're showing books on social media, don't do what I did in my example picture – don't cram loads of book covers into one image.

Yay, an ace/aro friend with really high standards regarding books and who usually doesn't like the first person POV at all, really liked the first two books of the series "The Murderbot Diaries" by Martha Wells.
I gave them to her as a birthday gift.

    with a book recommendation
If I see #goth main characters in fiction, I am intrigued. And the queer young adult romance „You’ve Goth My Heart“ by L. C. Rosen was a delight to read.😊

It is set in Sleepy Hollow (yes, the town with the legend of the Headless Horseman). The story is not only very #queer, but also #wholesome.

So I started reading "You've Goth My Heart" by L.C. Rosen and I already like it. 😍
The two moms of the main character Gray are not only goths, but also pagans and witches.
So there is a bit of #pagan and #witchy representation here as well.
It also gets suspenseful, because in the town, some teens get missing. Maybe there will be a murder mystery?

I'll write the blurb into the next toot(s).

Learned something from the non-fiction book "The art of darkness: The history of goth" by John Robb - I had no idea that some members of the New Wave/Postpunk band "New Order" used to be in the band "Joy Division".

New on my e-book reader: volume 1 - 4 of "The Murderbot Diaries" by Martha Wells. I am going to read the German translation, I heard it is quite good.

I have started reading the #horror novel "Camp Damascus" by Chuck Tingle.
To me, this is a truly uncomfortable read, for a reason that I did not expect:
Protagonist Rose has a devout and possible fundamentalist Christian family and was raised accordingly.
I have no religious trauma, but it is sort of painful to read how Rose constantly thinks and talks about what Jesus, God and the church want from her, how parts of media and pop culture are forbidden to her and more.

Reading "Loveless" by Alice Oseman, a YA novel. The main character, Georgia, loves Romance, but only in theory. As she later finds out, she is on the #asexual and #aromantic spectrum.
Before this, she desperately wants to have love, romance and sex. Because that is what everybody wants, or so she assumes.
This reminded me of a childhood dream I had. I very much wanted to learn Ballet.
However, that wasn't meant to be, because I have a walking disability.

  17. I wish I could talk about a new book for #RandomBookClub, but atm, I have zero capacities for reading in my leisure time, because I have to read a lot professionally, for editing jobs. Meanwhile, my book wishlist keeps growing and I have no idea when to read all of that. 🙈

  18. #RandomBookClub, #Summerween edition:

"The Carrow Haunt" by Darcy Coates
This is a rather long novel, but I felt highly entertained. Some choices the characters make are a bit questionable, in other cases I could hardly stop my suspension of disbelief, but all in all this was okay in my eyes.
My only point of critique is the romance which was shoe-horned in here, it was very unnecessary and not very believable imho.

I finished "The Broken Girls" by Simone St. James and can recommend it. It's a very atmospheric mystery, set in two timelines (1950 in a boarding school for girls and 2014 in a small town in Vermont).
In my eyes, it also has some gothic-novel-ish vibes because there is a supernatural element included.

I started reading "Home Before Dark" by Riley Sager yesterday, a Haunted House novel and so far, I am enjoying it (blurb in the picture).
You might argue it's not really the season for scary stories, but I am a goth and I like my horror and ghost stories and such all year long. 👻

  22. @amalia12 I'm reading "Inventing the Renaissance" by Ada Palmer, a nonfiction book about, well, the Renaissance and how it's a complicated hot mess, not simply a rebirth of art and philosophy after a Dark Age.

I mostly like it so far; it's interesting but a bit dense, with lots of people and feuds and schemes.

It also makes me want to visit Florence, and Rome, again.
