A tiny anecdote from yesterday: as I was leaving the speaking gig, I walked past the front office of the community centre. I glanced in, as I walked by, and I stopped. I saw a sign saying "Mojgan". And I wanted to know how it was pronounced! How fascinating, a name I've never heard, and can't honestly place as to its origin. So cool!

So I said, "Excuse me? I just wanted to say that's a really pretty name."

She looked surprised.

"I just like it. It looks nice written out. May I ask how you say it?"

She blushed. "It's 'mozh-g'n'". Emphasis on the first syllable, the second reduced to just the consonants basically.

I repeated it, and asked if I'd got it right. She nodded, and smiled. I said, "Yes, that really is a lovely name. I hope you have a good day."

And I walked away, leaving an office of three women looking at one another like, "What just happened?" with smiles on their faces.

A couple of days ago I found a random crochet act of kindness in the form of this little rhinoceros friend left hanging from a bush.

Thought about taking him home, but decided to leave it since it was just round the corner from a primary school and would make some kid's day.

Today I was rewarded! Much more out of the way, up in a tree on our regular walking route, we found this little mouse friend instead!

I think the "Random Act of Crochet Kindness UK" thing is a FB group, so feel a bit sad I can't let them know this one was found, but oh well.

It's brightened my day and will take pride of place on the shelf 🐭

Circuit breaker powering a friend’s greenhouse located in their garage tripped — but a 5” thick ice glacier made it impossible to open! I brought tools of disassembly and what worked best was my 8 pound short-handle sledge hammer and my sharpest splitting wedge! Thick ice is fucking tough! Their greenhouse is getting power again!

Feels good to help make something a bit better in the current dystopia …
