Cette année marque le quarantième “anniversaire” de l’attentat contre le Rainbow Warrior orchestré par le gouvernement français sous la présidence de François Mitterrand, un drame qui a coûté la vie à Fernando Pereira, photographe de l’organisation.

Quarante ans plus tard, alors que la répression envers les militantes et militants écologistes ne cesse de s’intensifier, les luttes pour la justice sociale et environnementale sont plus que jamais d’actualité.

« Rainbow Warrior » : la dernière expédition

Le « Rainbow Warrior » premier du nom cingle dans l’océan Pacifique, en direction des îles Marshall. Nous sommes en mai 1985. Deux mois plus tard, le bateau emblématique de Greenpeace gît au fond du port d’Auckland, en Nouvelle-Zélande, la coque déchirée par deux bombes. Fernando Pereira, photographe et membre de l’équipage, trouve la mort dans cet attentat perpétré par les services secrets français (...).

En mai 1985, l’équipage du « Rainbow Warrior » effectuera donc sa dernière expédition en embarquant à bord du bateau la totalité de la population de Rongelap pour l’emmener vers un autre atoll non contaminé. Il aura fallu 11 jours et trois allers-retours pour transporter les quelque 300 habitant·es et leurs effets personnels (...). 

Une fois la mission (...) accomplie, l’équipage s’est rendu en Nouvelle-Zélande, dans le port d’Auckland. Après quelques jours de repos, il devait mettre le cap sur la Polynésie française, une autre zone du Pacifique victime elle aussi des explosions nucléaires menées par une autre puissance coloniale, la France. Le « Rainbow Warrior » devait conduire une flottille de protestation à Mururoa, contre les essais nucléaires français… L’État français a employé les pires moyens pour empêcher cette contestation pacifique et écologiste d’avoir lieu.

Today the #RainbowWarrior has returned to the Marshall Islands to mark the 40th anniversary of Operation Exodus in which the 1985 crew of the Warrior evacuated the entire population from their home island Rongelap atoll which was contaminated by the USA’s nuclear testing blasts along with many other islands in the Marshalls. ☢️
