I've been up for a little while.
Just turned the light on & sat down for breakfast. Immediately, there's a lorikeet outside insisting it's *their* food time. It's not. Now there are a dozen on the window sill & deck rails, staring, squawking, & judging me!
I've created a monster, a pretty, fluffy, squawky, rainbow monster!
*it's ok, I live in the bush, there's lots of food—they don't go hungry

The photos aren't the best, zoomed phone, cropped, but checkout these rainbow lorikeets!
Rainbow lorikeets typically have blue heads. These two had multi-coloured heads, with one more obvious than the other. I've never seen a lorikeet with anything but a blue head.

Well, I've never seen this behaviour from lorikeets before.
They're not fighting —real fights are violent.
They're not having sex—that's done, ummm, doggy style.

The rainbow lorikeets have been putting on a H rated display today (for hanky panky). Lots of crazy eyes (pupils get small, eyes are almost completely crazy orange), dancing, nibbling, grooming, getting rebuffed, and eventually getting a leg over.
One tried for a second round, but was instead very strongly rebuffed. He didn't learn... 😂

This pair of rainbow lorikeets (Trichoglossus moluccanus) seem to be finding it hard to get out of bed and face the rainy day ahead! 🦜🌧️
Lorikeets make cosy homes in hollow-bearing trees, which can take hundreds of years to form and are a hot commodity – more than 300 native animals rely on hollows to nest, breed, shelter and feed.

During our recent zoo visit we saw wild (well, um… resident!!) #RainbowLorikeets - aren’t they just gorgeous?
We were there before opening time as we did a ’glamping’ overnight stay and the zoo keepers feed them first thing in the morning, in their accustomed hang-out place.
So the timing was perfect for some colourful and playful snaps!
