  2. Iron Bones

I nearly walked straight past it. You’re on the South Bank, dodging cyclists, and there’s this railway bridge overhead that most people treat as a ceiling to hurry under. But look up and the underside of Blackfriars Railway Bridge is a riot of riveted iron girders fanning out like the ribs of some enormous mechanical whale. I switched to black and white because the colour version was fighting the composition; stripping it back let the geometry do the talking.

    Verbaut: 26 Millionen #Ziegel
    #Bauzeit: 1846 - 1851
    #Höhe: 78 m #Länge: 574 m

  5. The boundary of #Devon and #Cornwall is marked in the south by the #RiverTamar. Across it, there is an old and historic #RailwayBridge called the #RoyalAlbertBridge, which was built in the mid 1800s by #Engineer #IsambardKingdomBrunel, Here, you can see it on the approach on the #train. This was taken using my #Android phone.

  6. I follow a fascinating blog "Bridge of the Month" established by the late Bill Harvey, an expert on masonry bridges, and now carried on by his son Hamish. This month looks at the 1850 George Stephenson viaduct on the East Coast Main line near Morpeth. Last weekend a large area of stonework fell off it reducing the line to single track, that single track now with a 5mph speed limit.

  7. For the latest episode of the PhotoActive podcast, out today, we talked about metadata and finding photos. Apps like Apple Photos and Lightroom desktop (not Classic) use object and scene recognition to identify things in your images, which is how I typed "bridge" into Photos and found this old sunset photo I'd forgotten. This bridge is located near the Ballard Locks in Seattle.
