  1. A growing number of signal passed at danger incidents has led to Poland's railway regulator UTK announcing that the most fequent offenders among train operating companies will be required to submit and execute plans for preventing such occurrences - and UTK may impose restrictions on their operations if they don't: rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/u

Well, I'm not so sure they can deliver on that threat in the passenger segment. But this is the kind of thing they're supposed to be doing and I hope some cooperation comes out of this.

A recent more widely-publicized incident in Kielce Herbskie where a Polregio train ran a red and would have collided with a PKPIC train if not for the signaller pressing the radio stop button in time was perhaps one trigger for this and is still under investigation by the companies involved: rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/p

  2. 🎨🚂 In a stroke of genius, Union Pacific believes that slapping a coat of white paint on rails will magically stop climate change and derailments. Because clearly, when it comes to solving serious logistical issues, the best tool is a paintbrush! 🖌️✨

  3. Rail Vision (NASDAQ: RVSN) positions AI-powered collision avoidance tech to meet growing rail safety mandates from NTSB. Real-time detection integrates with existing infrastructure. #RailSafety #AI

  4. There's only one crew member on that 2-mile freight train barrelling down the tracks and . . . #railsafety #rail

  5. @oclsc Been wondering since East Palestine why there's a) no NIST standard for all flavors of defect detectors, b) no national law specifying implementation, testing protocols. c) FDR Wallace would threaten nationalization to fix the mess
Might c-suite bonuses, Precision Stock Buybacks, AAR lobbying be interfering?😉😡#RailSafety #RailroadSafety

  6. A series of #GOP bills to finance the federal government in 2024 would wipe out billions of dollars meant to repair the nation’s aging #infrastructure, potentially undercutting a 2021 law that was one of Washington’s rare recent #bipartisan achievements. The proposed #cuts could hamstring some of the most urgently needed #PublicWorks projects across the country, from improving #RailSafety to reducing #LeadContamination at schools.

  7. Remembering the 47 people killed in Lac-Mégantic, Québec 10 years ago today when a runaway Montreal, Maine and Atlantic train carrying crude oil derailed in the downtown core of the city. The entire downtown burned to the ground. Rail safety in Canada has had little reform in the decade since then.

  8. “The passenger-advocacy group All Aboard Washington supports a Holgate closure, because less accident risk means more reliable service when trains arrive from Portland. “You’re only a few minutes from King Street Station. You feel like you’re almost there. They get on the PA and say, ‘We’re stopping.’ There’s traffic, or a truck that has blocked the intersection. That happens,” said Charlie Hamilton, co-executive director.” seattletimes.com/seattle-news/ #Seattle #Amtrak #PassengerRail #RailSafety

  9. “Few are as dangerous as the one in East Palestine, but city advocates hope the online tool showing the location of thousands of derailments will underscore the need for a federal safety law.” route-fifty.com/public-safety/ #Rail #Derailment #RailSafety

  10. “City leaders are cheering changes to rail safety legislation working its way through Congress that would take a small step toward addressing one of their top frustrations with freight carriers: trains that block road crossings for long periods of time.” #Rail #RailSafety #Legislation route-fifty.com/infrastructure

  11. “U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and I are committed to using every resource at our disposal to ensure the highest levels of safety, and the Secretary has insisted that America’s major freight railroads do the same while inviting Congress to work with us to further advance rail safety. “ Amit Bose, Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) globalrailwayreview.com/articl #RailSafety #FRA

  12. @opensecrets Too costly? And they want to ship #NuclearWaste via the rail? Ummmm... Where's #RalphNader when we need him? So grateful for #OpenSecrets! You folks ROCK!

"But Senators face a slew of objections from the rail industry, which has consistently lobbied to defeat federal safety mandates that it says would be too costly or disruptive to commerce."
