  1. @korkenzieher OK, that was a really helpful RTFM. I now have a virtual IP up and running and can connect to the S3 endpoint via that vIP.

Sadly, the TLS settings seem to be a little less capably in the tentacle release. If I understand the documentation (docs.ceph.com/en/tentacle/ceph) correctly, I can handover a TLS certificate and key.

In the `latest` documentation on can specify this should be a self-signed certificate provided by cephadm.

So until I get the Let's Encrypt certificate, I have HTTP traffic served on port 443, as just specifying `ssl: true` seems to do nothing in Tentacle...

  2. Well, I have a plan going forward for my #Proxmox #Ceph storage servers.
Migrating all servers (with months apart) to 8-bay hot-swap cases with backplane, and adding my remaining 6 #SMR HDDs to them (2 for each of the three servers) for a low-performance #RadosGW/S3 glacier type storage (with SSD DB-pool, but that's not the point).
Reducing the footprint of bulk/backup storage on my expensive CMR-drives.

  3. #EntePhotos has its own set of issues: You can't use local storage at all, you have to use #S3-compatible services.
Luckily I have #Ceph #RadosGW available, but for those without? Renting object storage, or running MinIO seems a little excessive.
Yes it transitioned to source available, but that doesn't remove the smell of "our infrastructure, or none".

  4. My #Mastodon storage bill:
    73.1 GiB of user-content stored in my self-hosted #Ceph #RadosGW erasure-coded #S3 storage pool.

  5. Question for those of you who use object storage exposed by the Ceph Object Gateway (radosgw):

Do you use the radosgw feature that enables you to access the same data via both the Swift and S3 APIs?

A — No, we only use the S3 API
B — No, we only use the Swift API
C — No, we do use both APIs but never to access the same data (i.e. we have some Swift data and some separate S3 data)
D — Yes, we do use both APIs to access the same data

    Boosts for reach appreciated!

  6. Deploying #Ceph Reef #RadosGW because Squid has fatal error for months now, and the existing bugfix hasn't been pulled into 19.2.2 🙃

  7. After 2 hours of googling how to access an object stored in a public bucket in #ceph #radosgw using the S3 API I finally stumbled across this beauty:

    ceph-users.ceph.narkive.com/pk

    Thanks @xahteiwi !

  8. Setting up a #SelfHosted #OCIS instance using my local #Ceph #RadosGW #S3 service - free^1 infinite storage.

Let's see whether #Collabora is viable.

1: Running-cost of my #Proxmox cluster not included.
