  1. ☔️🚫 #Canada shuts down its #weather #radio service, leaving "Radio Amateurs of Canada" to play #meteorologist. Because who needs professional forecasts when you have the guy who still uses Morse code? 📻😂

  5. I found a rabbit hole called #WebSDR through an article about the work of PT de Boer, one of my university lecturers at @utwente, who has been infuential for its development.

After listening to people from Twente discussing a.o. driving and taxes on FM, I continued a podcast with Sid Sijbrandij, a #UTwente alum, about "agentic everything".

The contrast between "doing things for the love of it" (#RadioAmateurs -> WebSDR) and "I want results" (Sid) felt sharp.

  10. C'est complètement dingue comme le réseau #Meshtastic s'est déployé en quelques mois dans la plaine d'Alsace. 868 LongFast.
Des #radioamateurs ont placés des nodes à des endroits super stratégiques.

  11. This headline made me do a double-take, until I realised it was #RoadSafety Great Britain rather than #RSGB (#radio society of Great #Britain) for #RadioAmateurs - TBH if any #hams *are* pulled up for #DUI (unless they are prog-rock loving #hippies who still indulge now and then , which isn't that uncommon round here, quite a few #seniors been nicked recently) its more likely to be happen due to #drugs they got prescribed legally for age-related health conditions (usually #benzodiazepines and #opiates) than #partydrugs (beware - even a legal prescription is *not* a "get out of jail free" card, and an OM who ends up mounting the kerb trying to adjust his VFO whilst driving might well be swabbed / blood tested)

  17. Question to the #french #radioamateurs : Is phone (SSB) allowed on 30m in France? I hear a group this morning vy loud on 10130 USB... #amateurfunk #hamradio

  18. Did some more investigation into the weird BFO wobble when doing sideband on my PL-368. Seems to be frequency dependent, gets much worse at higher frequencies. At around 30Mhz it's almost 100Hz, making voice and data reception almost impossible. Anyone seen something like this before? Any advice aside from "don't buy a 60€ radio"?

to the Digital Library of Amateur Radio & Communications. Maybe it's useful for some of you #radioAmateurs out there

#hamradio Thanks for tooting!

  21. @F1RAD
Je pense qu'il y a + de #RADIOAMATEURS sur Hawaï qu'en Alaska, alors on va dire que tu as fait le plus dur ! 😉

  22. A video on ITT / STC / PYE Starphone UHF/VHF #radiotelephones - widely used for #PMR / Business #radio and the Emergency Services during the 1970s and early 1980s (I remember seeing the mobile sets in taxicabs when I was a lad). They were eventually superseded by Philips / Tait / Motorola / Stornophone sets and sold off as surplus, where the hand held sets in particular became popular with #radioamateurs (they could be recrystalled for 70cm)

  23. Changes to the Foundation License for UK #RadioAmateurs have been published.

it looks like by the time I manage to take it I might have to do the newer assessments.

I'm not /totally/ against some of the changes but there are claims RSGB did not accept feedback from assessors at local clubs, I also think its half arsed they did not work with Ofcom to align with CEPT Novice License requirements so new licensees could operate in other countries more easily!

  24. A tip for any #radioamateurs or others who might obtain these #pagers (GP2012 type): 📟

*some* variants have special firmware that converts raw numeric msg on capcode 1 to more friendly msg via PC programming software (so cheap €9 portable TX buttons (+18 dBm) can be used)

But this makes the pager act strange for other msg types on capcode 1, you may even think it is defective!

Workaround: Turn off capcode 1, use the others (there are up to 8) and everything works as expected..

  25. @gargron @aleksy @nobody @Mallabori @mimtschan @punsandpotions @DarckCrystale @paulfree14 @myrrhashad @self @eliotberriot I am equally worried about the data, although in UK when a young person goes missing it is not uncommon for "strangers" to help out with search including physical searching areas, and info is passed between blue light services and volunteer groups (such as Red Cross, and #radioamateurs on unencrypted comms networks (due to TETRA radios being limited access).
