  1. When the world feels divided, we don’t heal by “winning” arguments. We heal by learning to really see and hear one another.

In this post, we share mindful ways to pause before reacting, listen with curiosity, and look for shared values—even when we disagree. Small, everyday choices in how we speak, scroll, and show up can gently build bridges in our families, workplaces, and communities.

  8. Radical Compassion Doesn’t Mean Forgiving the Irredeemable

Radical empathy and radical compassion are central to my philosophy, anarcho-compassionism. They call for seeing others fully, understanding their struggles, their fears, their backgrounds, and even the ways they hurt others. They ask us to listen deeply, to hold space for humanity in all its forms, and to recognize that everyone, even oppressors, is shaped by complex forces. But radical compassion is not moral relativism. It is not an excuse to align ourselves with those who do harm or to […]

  13. Why Calling Nick Fuentes a ‘White Fred Hampton’ Isn’t Just Wrong — It’s Threatening

Frimpong’s video titled “Nick Fuentes: White Fred Hampton. Hear Me Out!” attempts to position Fuentes — a known white nationalist — as analogous to Fred Hampton, the legendary Black Panther and multiracial working‑class organizer. On its face, the move seems provocative — perhaps intentionally so — but on closer inspection it reveals a deeply incoherent political logic, one that betrays both the memory of Hampton and any serious account of solidarity across race, class, and […]

  18. 6.5: Teaching Hopepunk Fiction with Dr Tanis MacDonald

On this episode of the podcast, Ariel chats with Dr Tanis MacDonald about her upcoming course in winter 2025 on hopepunk. What exactly is so punk about this kind of hope? Can hopepunk even be said to be a genre in its own right, or is it an aesthetic or lens that we can use to think through just why the characters are deciding to have hope in bleak situations?

Tune in for recommendations of hopepunk novels (and poetry!), ruminations on political hope, the centrality of relationships and radical empathy to these stories, and more. Plus some academic theories informing the formulations of hope, of course.

  25. #RadicalEmpathy

"Personally, I’ve found radical empathy to be very effective in creating opportunities for people to better understand each other across difference. Based on Finding a Path to Bridging Racial Divides by Terri Givens, radical empathy asks us to begin with the acknowledgment that there’s a historical legacy of harm in our society, that this moment is not divorced from the past, and that there's going be a lot of work needed for repair.”

  26. @terrigivens I really love the discussion you've initiated about how people conflate #allyship with #paternalism

I'm curious to learn about any strategies you've named to address and repair that rupture

Definitely going to have to check out your book #RadicalEmpathy

  27. @djlena @theneurotrust The Warmth of Other Suns is one of my absolute favorites and inspired my book #RadicalEmpathy - I was excited to see her mention Radical Empathy at the end of her book Caste.

  28. @johnholbein I was thrilled to be the first black woman to get tenure in my department. Within a few months I was promoted to Vice provost. Took me years to recover from the whiplash. #RadicalEmpathy

  29. I'm starting to see a trend of people using "radical candor" as a disguise for being a "total jerk".

Friendly reminder: radical candor goes hand in hand w/ radical (not ruinous) kindness.

Without the kindness, you've haven't created the space for effective candor.

This is especially important for #academic peer review and #feedback.

  32. Reading that libraries, #RadicalEmpathy, and #neutrality open letter and wondering... what attempts to defend neutrality as an "ethically-informed philosophical position of long-standing professional principle" are there in #library literature? Because they cited the criticisms so thoroughly but then had no sources supporting the view they're arguing for...
