RE: #AntiBlackRacismInMedicine and people I'm close with
This explains why ALL 3 of my family of choice members who are racialised as 'black' refuse to go to doctors:

A gender non-conforming cis het man who is fed up with people who are focused on what racist, bigoted narrative to force onto him, instead of doing their jobs as medical professionals.

A cisgender gay man who is fed up with constantly confronting and correcting the farkakte these bigots in medicine come up with when they interact with him.

A gay transman who is fed up with every sort of idiot he encounters in the medical field (racists, TERFs, transphobes, so-called trans allies who freak about the concept of transmen in general, so-called trans allies who are hostile to the idea of a 'black' transman, medical people who freak out about the idea of a 'black' gay transman, medical providers of colour who feel entitled to be openly hostile towards a 'black' transman but not a 'white' transman, etc)

The behaviours of many medical providers and the unprofessional medical treatment towards POCs, particularly 'black' people, are dangerous. A racist healthcare system is dangerous.

This is not an Amerika-only problem.

"race isn’t a biological category. It can be tied 2 biological traits, eg skin pigmentation, but it’s not so clear cut. There R lots of African Americans who have much lighter skin than many S. Indians, but South Indians may not identify as Black. There’s no medical test that can identify a person’s race."

"Medical science in antebellum America was organized around a paradox: it presumed African Americans to be less than human yet still human enough to be viable as experimental subjects, as cadavers, and for use in the training of medical students. "

"While the conflation of racial categories with inherent biological or genetic traits has no scientific basis, the detrimental impact racial discrimination has on historically marginalized and minoritized communities is well documented. The experience of racism in all its forms – e.g. interpersonal, institutional, and systemic – is recognized as a driving force behind persistent health inequities, "
