An Age Coming To an End
What we are witnessing is an age coming to an end and these people are scared to death of becoming irrelevant. They are always gonna be the loudest near the end. That’s why we have to drown out that hate and be louder. We are on the right side of history and we can’t let the other side write that history.

Three municipalities in Florida have voted against renaming streets after Charlie Kirk, @LGBTQNation reports. This was after residents showed up at public meetings to object, citing Kirk's racist remarks, lack of ties to their communities, and that those who disagreed with his views should not have to live on a street that bears his name. "I want you to know that as you try and deify Charlie Kirk, you are also deifying White supremacy,” Jennifer Griffin, a resident of Clearwater, told its city council members after reading out some of his racist remarks.

Curry and Ryan Coogler's "Race Against Time," and Peacock's "Hope in High Water." "'Race Against Time' really starts cooking when it tackles the racial bias evident in the disaster response and the way it was covered," writes Ben Travers. "One neighbor talks about how a nursing home full of stranded residents was ignored until they replaced the Black people on the roof, crying for help, with white people."

Limitations on housing opportunities caused by racial discrimination in American rental markets impose damages upon Black + Hispanic rentors equal to 3 to 5% of their annual income. "Christensen and Timmins deployed a bot to scour online apartment listings and send 18,000 inquiries [to] about 6000 apartments in five major metro regions, varying the names of the “apartment seeker” to suggest different racial identities." Names implying non-white identities had approximately an 8% lower likelihood of receiving a response, "particularly for neighborhoods with more white residents, higher rental demand, stronger schools, more cafés, fewer murders, and less toxic air quality." Three to five percent is a lot. And institutional racism still exists, contrary to the misinformation + disinformation purveyed by certain media + political figures. 5/31/1921 was one of this country's most horrifying episodes of racist mob violence. Hundreds of Black residents were killed in the #TulsaRaceMassacre. Survivors lost their livelihoods as a white mob set fire to 35 blocks of the #Greenwood District (aka #BlackWallStreet). 1,256 homes were destroyed. In recent years, historians & descendants of survivors have worked hard to revive memories of this all but forgotten chapter.

These Republican efforts to stop children from learning about black history, and the history and consequences of race dynamics in America are an attempt at historical revisionism, and the protection of fragile, white egos. It's really not a surprise that most of these efforts are happening in states that make up the former Confederacy, and by mostly conservative white men who would undoubtedly identify with the Confederacy if it was 1861.
