Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope (Switch): COMPLETED!
What seems like a very, very long time ago, I played the original Mario + Rabbids (apparently it’s “Mario Plus Rabbids” not “Mario And Rabbids”, which sounds clumsy) on the Switch and it was great and I was well up for the sequel when it arrived. But, like many other things, it got forgotten and I never got round to buying it. Until it was so cheap on the eShop recently that it was basically free. And I mean this in a “it was about £5 instead of £50” way of being “nearly free”, rather than Kotaku’s thinly veiled adverts for “nearly free” Macbooks that are $899 instead of $999 or something. Yes, those adverts annoy me so much I’ve deleted Kotaku from my RSS reader. Yes, I still use an RSS reader.
Where was I? Oh, yeah. Sparks of Hope. In most ways, it’s more of the same not-quite XCom of the original, only this time it blends Rabbids with Mario Galaxy’s characters, mashing Rabbids with Lumas to make Sparks, which essentially give you extra abilities you can use in battles.
I’m also pretty sure the game no longer uses a proper grid-based movement system. I mean, it is still effectively grid-based but feels like it isn’t, with movement ranges being shown as circular areas and freedom to move whereever in that you like. You do, however, “snap” to a sort of grid, and cover like rocks and crates are still noticeably square, so it’s a bit fake. Outside of the battles, the overworld feels much less grid-like though, except many puzzles there involve moving things in rectangular areas.
Other than those changes, and some new characters and tweaks to moves and rules, it’s more of the same. Battles seem a bit quicker, although some of that could be the quicker load times on the Switch 2, and the game seemed a lot easier. So much easier that I don’t actually recall losing a single fight. Doesn’t really matter though, because it’s fun – especially when you manage to chain attacks like tackles, movement sensor reactions, and making baddies bounce into the air so they move and get shot all in one turn, obliterating even difficult foes.
Also, Rabbid Peach channelling Mean Girls is great.

And I've made it through the #Rayman DLC. Again, without using items ever.
Well, it was a challenging trip that took months and it was an experience worth its 50 Euro (for Gold Edition).
Do you also get this feeling of emptiness in #Gaming when you've been going through all the challenges with these heroes and now you suddenly have to say goodbye? I definitely have it, but it's a good practice of letting go.

I can even appreciate #art while I make my way through the game. Each planet features its warden's story, and the styles are different in every storyline.

Finished #MarioRabbidsSparksOfHope. On Hard. Without ever using consumables (accidentally challenged myself).
Lovely game. No better and no worse than Kingdom Battle, just different. Although a bit long to my taste, but, come on, I 100%-ed it!
And there are still 3 DLCs remaining. Looking forward to trying them out. The Donkey Kong DLC in the first game was better than the main campaign, to my taste.

My son asked for Rabbids Sparks of Hope for his birthday. They just had a Prime Day deal for it for $20 say I missed by one day. #Nintendo however, has a similar sale on it right now, but unfortunately, they also have a sale on the Gold Edition for $50. Keep in mind that the base game is $60 anywhere else and the Gold Edition is $90. I was percent satisfied with the base game until I saw the third DLC will be a Rayman one, so now instead of a Rayman Legends sequel like I was hoping for, I'm now shelling out for the Gold Edition of a Rabbids game for a Rayman DLC that won't even come out until March of next year! 😭😭😭 #Ubisoft #Rayman #Rabbids #nintendo

He empezado a jugar con mi peque (4 años) a "Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope".
Él elige quienes forman el equipo y hacia dónde vamos y yo me encargo de combatir mientras le explico lo que hago y, sobre todo, hago bromas y vocecillas con los rabbids.
Está siendo muy divertido empezar a compartir un hobby con él.Por cierto ¿los #Rabbids (Mario, Peach y demás) hablaban en el primer juego? No lo recuerdo y me descuadra un poco.

Jetzt muss ich wohl oder übel dem Liebmensch eine Weile beim Zocken zusehen. Mein Leben ist schon sehr, sehr schwer heute... 😩
Allerdings muss ich mal meckern, habe 99% in den ersten Welten und weiß nicht, was ich für das letzte Prozent verchecke... Google, sag mal..
