The Knesset Ethics Committee decided this morning (Wednesday) to impose sanctions on MK Aida Touma-Sliman (#Hadash) and MK Iman Khatib-Yasin (#Raam), following their remarks regarding the war in #Gaza.

[…] The committee decided to suspend Touma-Sliman from the Knesset for two months following a tweet in which she claimed the #IDF was attacking #Shifa Hospital in Gaza.

[…] It should be noted that IDF forces have been operating since this morning in one of the compounds of Shifa Hospital in Gaza, with the IDF stating that "the operation is based on intelligence information and operational necessity."

[…] MK Touma-Sliman responded: "The Ethics Committee's decision is not just my personal silencing. It is the silencing of an entire public I represent and the silencing of anyone who dares to voice an opinion that is not a consensus. I see the committee's decision, which gives a hand to crushing freedom of expression inside and outside the Knesset, in utmost severity," she added, "and I see fit to warn of the fateful implications this will also have on representatives in parliament and the general public, including the Arab minority.”

[…] "It is no coincidence that the sanctions imposed on me are in the form of suspension, silencing and denial of my right and duty to participate in Knesset committees and plenum and to actually oversee government decisions, because it is clear to me that the goal is not to maintain the Knesset's dignity and status but to silence any criticism that is inconsistent with the majority opinion. I will continue to represent my positions and act according to my principles against wars and against harming the civilian population and in favor of a political solution inside and outside the Knesset."
