The "Snake Oil" episode of this website audio show "Maintenance Phase" is interesting.
Apparently, actual snake oil works. The bad reputation comes from all the counterfeits (so many) brandished at "Medicine Shows", the soap opera time share entertainment of the time. Entertainment before the advertisement and product selling.

Tried to bicycle to Houston today but got blocked by a fallen tree. Then an upsetting phone call about family (UTI not going away -- big problem nationwide in older folk now & her knowing she needs to go to assisted living but firing her home health help) from doctor deflated my enjoyment level & didn't feel like lifting it over the tree as I've done before.
But I did see this & was happy to finally see some Fall colors.

Bicycled 11 miles round trip, got flu and Covid-19 shots and took a nap I hadn't planned on until the dogs woke me up to go out.
I can't take naps, so pretty sure it was a side effect.
