  2. CW: Unexpected museum

Walking down a side street in Paris today I came across a low key but interesting museum of language. Here is one of the low key but interesting exhibits. It shows how people in different parts of the world use language to divide up colours in different ways.

  3. Hey @wespeechies! Why is a speechie a speechie and not speecho; a truckie a truckie and not a trucko; a wharfie a wharfie and not a wharfo? Whereas, a garbo is a garbo and not a garbie; an ambo is an an ambo and not an ambie; and a muso is a muso and not a musie, and a milko is a milko and not a milkie. And what about mozzies, sunnies, trackies, pommies, and of course, Aussies?

  4. Pleasure, Ruth @theloadedbrush . If you follow me you'll be able to see my posts (if you want to). If you click on some of the links in my #FF posts (e.g., #AUSpol, #Pilates, #artists, #News, #Gardening) it might lead you to Mastodon people who would be #QuiteInteresting to follow.

  5. Thanks for your comment @Hostuu, and I'm sorry to hear you're sick and tired. I agree with you that #chatGPT will do nothing to increase many people's learning and have no argument to offer as to how it might prompt an increase, except, perhaps by getting someone started in researching a topic independently. The article was #QuiteInteresting to me, as I like to read a range of views/ opinions rather than staying in an #EchoChamber. My toot ("note the quotes") was a snippet from the article. ✂️

  6. Use INTERNET ARCHIVE SCHOLAR to search Millions of Research Papers. Its full text search index includes >25 million research articles and other scholarly documents preserved in the Internet Archive. You'll be astonished at what you find. scholar.archive.org/ #QuiteInteresting

It's like a chat group on an ActivityPub server that can interact with any other ActivityPub server, including Mastodon.

  8. I've worked with 4 managing editors (3 excelled) on a current project & thought this was #QuiteInteresting"

    "Crediting editors

The easiest change to implement – one that is free and that we could start today – is to add the name of a book’s editors to every imprint page. It is standard to credit the designer and the printer. Often the font is listed. But with the exception of illustrated books, where entire teams are credited, editors rarely appear on imprint pages." theconversation.com/editors-ha

@claudinec hi, take a look at my toot from yesterday on hashtag #QuiteInteresting 😎

  10. @Naogur I updated my #QuiteInteresting post about the availability of "EDIT" on @lingo.lol . It now has Delete and redraft AND Edit.

    [PARAPHRASE]

The FEDIVERSE (portmanteau of FEDERATION + UNIVERSE) is an ensemble of federated (interconnected) servers used for web publishing and file hosting,.

While independently hosted, SERVERS (technically INSTANCES) can communicate with each other.

On the numerous INSTANCES, users can create so-called IDENTITIES. Identities (that's each of us) can communicate over the instances' boundaries because ... MORE HERE

    RE THE #TwitterMigration

"To the Twitter people it feels like a confusing new world, whilst they mourn their old life on Twitter. They call themselves "refugees", but to the Mastodon locals it feels like a busload of Kontiki tourists just arrived, blundering around yelling at each other and complaining that they don't know how to order room service. We also mourn the world we're losing." @shug

  14. @speechwoman @CarolineBowen this *is* #QuiteInteresting! I was wondering what delete and redraft would look like. I also found out that diff instances have their own emojis. I'm very jealous of #Medmastodon emojis.

  15. Click on #QuiteInteresting to read little snippets of information about Mastodon that I think are, ahem, QUITE INTERESTING. If you are an old hand in the Fediverse, you might find them #QuiteBoring ... but I'm new here, and this is for other newcomers.

  16. QUITE INTERESTING

Instances have an ...EDIT function (click on the "..." at lower right of the post you want to edit, & choose EDIT).

Some have DELETE AND RE-DRAFT instead.

    e.g., as @speechwoman on nerdculture.de/home I can EDIT, WHEREAS, as @CarolineBowen o n lingo.lol/web/home I must DELETE & REDRAFT. UPDATE: "EDIT" IS NOW AVAILABLE on @lingo.lol too.

Delete & redraft is quite cool. The original toot pops into the text box & you edit it there.

  17. QUITE INTERESTING
The Mastodon search tool does not cover the whole Fediverse ---just the part of that your instance (e.g., @nerdculture.de, @lingo.lol) is connected to. Accordingly, if you search in the SEARCH BOX for a user, the tool will search among all the users of your instance, and the other instances you are connected to, but not those who are on instances you are not "on" or that you are not connected to. #QuiteInteresting

  18. QUITE INTERESTING
Currently, a Mastodon search can only be done for usernames (user URLs) or hashtags (e.g,, #DevLangDis). Apparently, a more powerful search tool will be available quite soon. #QuiteInteresting
