Ob “Abwickeln” oder “Vollenden” – jetzt ist er tot. Und der rettende Prophet kommt weder in seiner noch in anderer Gestalt. Die offene und entscheidende Frage wird auch nach diesem Text offenbleiben: wer ist die*der politische Träger*in, um die Demokratie angesichts der ihr drohenden Einsturzgefahren adäquat zu sanieren? Die Wenigen, die sich überhaupt dafür interessieren, erkennen die Gefahren immer genauer. Haben aber keine Antwort auf diese Frage.
Wie wirkungslos die billigen Reflexe professioneller bürgerlich-demokratischer Politik sind, berichtet Kristina Beer/heise, die einer australischen Grünen-Politikerin zugehört hat: “Australiens Social-Media-Bann: Jugendliche haben sich nicht aussperren lassen – Australische Jugendliche hat der Social-Media-Bann nicht wirksam von den Plattformen ausgesperrt. Die Politik müsse mehr tun, als nur ein Verbot auszusprechen.” Vorhersehbarer geht es kaum.
Wie sich demokratische Alibi-Kontrollinstanzen veralbern und verhungern lassen müssen, berichtet die NRW-Datenschutzbeauftragte Bettina Gayk im Interview mit Marie-Claire Koch/heise: “‘Umdenken erst, wenn ein Datenskandal ganz viele Leute empfindlich betrifft’ – Den Einsatz von Palantirs Software bei der Polizei kritisiert die LDI NRW, Bettina Gayk. Sie spricht im Interview mit heise online von ausufernder Überwachung.”

Das Zitat unter der Überschrift ist von dem Lokaljournalisten (!) Ralf Heimann/MDR-Altpapier. Hier sein gestriges Gesamtwerk. Mein unmassgebliches Gefühl ist, dass jede seiner Altpapier-Kolumnen immer besser wird. Sie zu lesen bringt steigenden intellektuellen Gewinn, freilich, ohne dass er meine oben gestellte Frage beantwortet. Er versucht nur seinen kleinen Beitrag zu leisten, wie ich und Andere es hier auch seit einigen Jahren tun.
“Herrschaftszeiten – Mit großer Verwunderung schauen wir auf die Erosion der Demokratien. Das Digitale bleibt ein Nischenthema. Sehen Sie den Fehler?”
Nicht wenige Bücher sind zu diesem Thema erschienen. Eins von Quinn Slobodian wurde letzten Sonntag von ihm selbst auf 3sat vorgestellt (Übernahme vom schweizerischen SRF). Ich habe eine Stunde zugehört, und es nicht bereut.

Greta Thunberg und der Antichrist: Antiklimapolitik als Kern der Zerstörung des demokratischen Staats
In meinem kurzen Post über Peter Thiel gestern habe ich den Punkt nicht erwähnt, der im Zusammenhang der Lektüre zur Klimakatastrophe – meinem Hauptthema – vielleicht der wichtigste ist: die Verbindung zwischen der autoritären Rechten und dem Kampf gegen die Klimabewegung. Meine Hypothese ist, dass sich die Rechte in den USA und Europa heute vom historischen Faschismus vor allem unterscheidet, weil sie wirksame Klimapolitik bekämpft. Anders formuliert: Die Klimakrise ist nicht eine von mehreren Krisen, auf die die Rechte antwortet, sondern sie ist der für ihr Handeln und ihren Erfolg entscheidende Faktor. Diese Hypothese ist intuitiv vielleicht einleuchtend, aber schwer zu belegen – vielleicht ist sie auch zu essentialistisch. Thiels Wut auf die Klimabewegung – bis hin zum Vergleich von Greta Thunberg mit dem Antichrist – verstehe ich als Argument für diese These. Dabei geht es Thiel nicht – wie anderen Förderern Trumps – primär um Erhaltung und Ausbau der fossilen Industrien, sondern darum, Klima- und Umweltpolitik als Kernstück auch anderer staatlicher Regulation zu unterbinden. The growing influence of Friedrich #Hayek’s ideas of cultural evolution and the mainstream popularity of neuroscience and evolutionary psychology led many to turn to the harder sciences. Changing demographics—an aging white population matched by an expanding nonwhite population—made some right-wing neoliberals and libertarians rethink the conditions necessary for #capitalism. Perhaps some cultures, and even some races, might be predisposed to market success while others were not? Perhaps #culturalhomogeneity was a precondition for social stability, and thus the peaceful conduct of market exchange and enjoyment of #privateproperty?"
