How and why a company might go about "quiet firing" an employee is succinctly spelt out in this quotation from an unnamed source in an Insider article on potential Facebook layoffs:
"The goal is to mentally stress and burnout a huge number of demoralized employees to quit without severance, thus reduce workforce without layoffs."

Quiet firing?
The "quiet quitting" thing always felt like a summer silly season story that went unexpectedly viral, but with little substance.
The idea of "quiet firing", however, is a much more insidious and potentially more prevalent issue.
Came across the term via this quotation:
"Quiet firing is normally being used if the employer would like someone to… instead of being fired, realise it’s not a good fit, and therefore resign."
