Three of my mini-PC power supplies have died over the last 2–3 months.
That’s half my #K8S cluster unavailable right now. 😓
All three nodes are old Optiplex 3010s, and their #QuickSync support isn’t great anyway. Right now #Plex / #Jellyfin is pinned to a single node with the “newest” CPU for transcoding.
Debating whether to replace the PSUs or just upgrade the dead nodes to newer mini-PCs.

Than I guess it was the right decision to look for another Plex compute server outside their portfolio.

So, I'm using a AMD Ryzen 4600G in my homelab featuring #ProxmoxVE. The hardware transcoding capabilities of AMD hardware is very much behind Nvidia and #Intel, even though it isn't half as bad as expected. Anyway, the best transcoding hardware (best quality at same size/profile) are Intel devices featuring #QuickSync. Setting up another dedicated transcoding device (featuing a low power Intel APU such as the #N100) device doesn't seem to make much sense for me. There are several Intel Arc GPUs on the market and they all have pretty much the same transcoding capabilities, so I'd like to get the Intel GPU featuring the lowest power draw, especially when idling. (1/?)

New PC is built - just waiting for the 8TB media storage HDD to arrive tomorrow. Win11 on a 250GB SATA SSD for firmware & occasional #windows needs. #Fedora39 beta on NVME drive but having issues - If the machine suspends it will never wake back up, logitech K400 can't scroll unless I unplug/replug the receiver, steam only launches if I right-click & select Launch w/integrated graphics, & the RX 6700 RX hardware encoding isn't available w/ #FOSS drivers - so just #QuickSync from the iGPU. :/

Scheint so als hätte ich #Owncast Settings gefunden, die ganz gut passen könnten.
Morgen dann mal mein #OBS konfigurieren, #Intel #Quicksync Rendering verbraucht #CPU technisch echt nen Witz im Vergleich zu meinen #Ryzen 5 2600X mit #X264.
Jetzt noch das #SteamDeck #XboxSeriesS und #NintendoSwitch an die #CaptureCard binden und dann sollte nichts mehr im Wege stehen.
Energie technisch ist das so viel Effizienter als mit mein Desktop und seiner #GTX1060 bei nahezu selber Qualität. 😂

@jason locally I run #portainer on a single instance that handles a bunch of #SelfHosted things (stuff like #Plex runs on that with an Intel CPU for #QuickSync transcoding with the media on a separate #NAS mounted across the network), I'm not looking to replace that just yet, more of a learning thing!
It is a little bit of #FOMO I think, mostly it's curiosity about what it's all like.

Oh… checking again years later and it looks like #Gigaset never managed to release #QuickSync for #Linux. I understand this is the company building the #VollaPhone?
Very mixed feelings on this.
