  1. "Let's Get Together", also known as "#GetTogether" and "Everybody Get Together", is a song written in the mid-1960s by the American singer-songwriter #ChetPowers (stage name Dino Valenti), from the #psychedelicRock band #QuicksilverMessengerService. A hit version by #theYoungbloods, included on their 1967 debut album The Youngbloods, peaked at No. 5 on the #Billboard #Hot100 in 1969.

    The prompt is Quick

Quicksilver Messenger Service was the epitome of the #SanFrancisco #60s #psychedelic band. Describing San Francisco/ #JamBands as having folk, jazz, and classical influences has become a cliche, and as much as it applies here, it falls short in describing their sound. There’s a sweetness (it's not a bad thing) and lightness to their sound, maybe imparted by the way they used keyboards and by their use of flute that to me set this particular band of hippies apart.

There’s apparently controversy about whether future lead singer #DinoValenti was involved when they first formed, and disagreement about when he (re?)joined in 1969, whether that was the downfall of the group or its elevation to a new creative peak, but it’s the latter form of the band that had more commercial success, and what I think of as #QuicksilverMessengerService.

  4. Why'd the band split up the one long song on side A into multiple tracks? Because the record company paid pop singers by the tracks.

The banding isn't arbitrary, though. They stitched together the album's "Who Do You Love?" from multiple live tapes. Listen via playlist and you'll notice: each track highlights a different member.

"We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold."

  5. Kinda weird how #QuicksilverMessengerService put out one decent acid-rock LP, one absolute skull-pulper, and then five or six of forgettable acid-folk.

#HappyTrails is the gem, anyway. Bo Diddley bounces retooled as primal hippie jamming, straight from the Haight.
