  1. 🏳️‍🌈 A little solidarity could help change my life.
I'm a young gay man from West Africa hoping to build a safer future through education in Brazil. I want to learn Portuguese and pursue my dream of studying computer networks and systems administration.
My fundraiser has raised only €5 so far. I know not everyone can donate, but a boost could help my story reach someone who can.

❤️ Please boost or share if you can.

  5. CW: CW: Vandalism, anti-queer hatred, fascism, references to violence

    Good morning. 🌸

Within a single week, both the memorial bench and the memorial tree commemorating the Berlin CSD attack were vandalised and destroyed.

    A bench.
    A tree.
    Both rainbow-coloured.
Both symbols of remembrance, solidarity and love.

It should be difficult to imagine anyone being angry enough about that to destroy them.

    And yet here we are.

There is something profoundly rotten about a person so consumed by hatred that a rainbow-painted bench becomes an enemy, and a tree planted in memory of victims becomes something that must be ripped from the ground.

But perhaps we should stop pretending that this is merely some unfortunate disagreement between people with different opinions.

    It isn't.

Fascism has never been satisfied with words. First it tells you that certain people are disgusting. Then it tells you they are dangerous. Then it tells you they don't belong.

And eventually, someone will start killing the people they feel don't belong.

    So no.

There can be no compromise with that.

We will not make ourselves smaller so fascists can feel comfortable. We will not hide our colours. We will not politely negotiate over whether our friends, our families, our children or ourselves deserve to exist.

    They tear down the tree?

    Plant another.

    They destroy the bench?

    Build two.

    They try to erase us?

Stand together. Stand visible. Stand unafraid.

Don't let hatred decide what our streets look like.
Don't let fear decide how loudly we love.
Don't let fascists teach us to disappear.

Show up. Speak out. Protect one another. Defend our spaces. Rebuild what they destroy. And never, ever surrender the ground they want us to leave.

They can tear down a tree.

They cannot uproot a movement. 🌈🏳️‍⚧️

  6. CW: CW: transphobia, fascist rhetoric, homophobia

Transphobic gay men are betraying us.

Not because gay men are somehow required to agree with every political position held by everyone under the rainbow. Disagreement is perfectly fine.

What is not fine is standing shoulder-to-shoulder with people who want to strip another queer minority of their rights, dignity, history, and humanity.

And that is exactly what some transphobic gay men are doing.

They rewrite Stonewall as though trans people weren't there. They erase trans women and gender-nonconforming people from queer history. They suddenly treat people who have been fighting alongside queer communities for decades as dangerous interlopers who somehow wandered into their movement.

And then there is the language.

    “Biological males.”

    “Men in dresses.”

    “Groomers.”

    “Predators.”

    “Degenerates.”

    “An ideology.”

    “An invasion.”

    “Protect the children.”

Sometimes they even start borrowing the vocabulary of outright fascists: talking about “purging” people, “cleansing” movements, “defending society” from supposedly dangerous minorities, or portraying trans people as some sinister ideological conspiracy infiltrating queer communities.

And when you point out what they are doing, there comes the inevitable:

    “But I'm gay!”

    Yes.

    And?

Being a member of a persecuted minority does not grant you a magical certificate of moral superiority. A gay man can be transphobic. He can be racist. He can be misogynistic. He can support fascists. He can participate in the persecution of another minority.

Queer history has never been a morality play in which everyone wearing a rainbow automatically becomes a good person.

And that is precisely why this makes me so angry.

Because gay men know what it feels like when society decides that you are disgusting. They know what it means to be called unnatural, diseased, dangerous, corrupting, perverted. They know what it is like when politicians turn your existence into a public debate and strangers feel entitled to tell you that you shouldn't exist.

And yet some have apparently decided that the correct response to surviving that experience is to help inflict it on someone else.

    That isn't courage.

    It isn't “critical thinking.”

    It isn't “protecting gay rights.”

    And it certainly isn't solidarity.

It is the oldest trick in the fascist playbook:

    First, decide who belongs.
    Then decide who belongs less.
Then decide who doesn't belong at all.

And I have absolutely no intention of helping anyone build that staircase.

Trans people are part of queer history.

    We fought at Stonewall.

We cared and nursed during the AIDS crisis.

We marched alongside other queer people.

We loved, protected, cared, and fought with and for our connunity.

We are not an embarrassing footnote to queer history that can be edited out because somebody suddenly discovered respectability politics.

We are part of the family.

And when someone tries to erase us from queer history while simultaneously describing us with the language of fascists, I am not impressed by their rainbow credentials.

I'm looking at what they do.

What they do tells me what they stand for.

And I will stand with the people being thrown under the bus.

    Every. Single. Time. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

  8. Sitting in a café at Kampus Hybernskà, Praha, contemplating the last 3 days as I wait for my train back.

The most reserved (or rather ignorant) of all people I came across in this academic conference is a trans sister :neocat_o_o: . The only other trans person there. Assuming the few queer academics in a niche part of academia would bond over a shared experience & interest in theory but, nope. Dismissive right from my 1st attempt to start a conversation :neocat_glare: . Oh, humans … ugh :neocat_reject:

As much as experiences like this one are irritating in this (still) early stage of my transition, I am all the more grateful for the solidarity, openness and support coming from (tadaa!) (btw charming) gay men. As disenchanting and surprising those encounters can be, they're important reminders to me not to narrow down my sense of community to trans siblings but keeping it wide open for queers of all flavours and orientations. :QueerCatHeart_Trans: :QueerCatHeart_MaleHomosexual:

  9. Damn, my full respect to the trans women from Thailand and the neighboring countries organizing the FOSSASIA. Trans care is worse here. Trans acceptance is low here. Laws are even worse here.

You women are so strong resisting, with no resignation ; shining in your space, making an incredible contribution to everyone here. Without visibility, with no recognition. And still you rock it.

You have my full, deep respect.

“We’re used to having to fight a lot for our rights, for our healthcare, and just to be recognized,” the chair told Erin in the Morning. “The survival of all trans folks depends upon the survival of trans folks in the South.”

“They’re going to come after the South first, make sure that their tactics work,” he continued. “Then they’re going to push them out to other states. That’s what we continue to see."

    🔴 Rot – Leben
    🟠 Orange – Heilung
    🟡 Gelb – Sonnenlicht
    🟢 Grün – Natur
    🔵 Blau – Harmonie
    🟣 Violett – Geist
