  3. I wanted to gather together a list of great YA queer books I’ve read of the very NON-smutty variety. And I figured, if I’m doing that, why not gather it here and share it with you too?

  4. A few years ago, I wrote a Christmas Day update to "Exit Plans for Teenage Freaks." If you'd like to see how Cole spent his first midnight after the whole "hey, turns out I can teleport" thing? Here it be:

  5. So, the whole of my #QueerYA writing are these four (so far):

"Leap," is a short story in the first, in the collection Boys of Summer; Exit Plans for Teenage Freaks was my first YA novel, "Hope Echoes" is a novella included in the tree-novella book Three Left Turns to Nowhere, and then the aforementioned Stuck With You, my hi-lo novel.

  7. When I was a queerling, none of the queer young adult books out there were available to me. They existed—I didn’t know, no one was going to hand them to me—which always made me want to add queer YA to the world. It’s like time travel; I write the stories I wish I’d found.

I wouldn’t be able to do this if it hadn’t been for the queer writers of #QueerYA before me. And to the librarians and teachers out there fighting to put queer books into queer hands—thank you. You are changing lives.

  8. I... got a starred review. From the School Library Journal.

    That's never happened before.

And can I frame "VERDICT: Highly recommended for hi-lo readers who loved Heartstopper." because I'd like to frame that.

  10. I did a re-read of "Cheer Up! Love and Pompoms" by @Amazonchique last week. Loved it the first time ;loved it even more this time. Is now be my go-to example of queer joy balanced with #queer reality.

  11. Now available everywhere! My #QueerYA Hi/Lo rom com, "Stuck With You."

Ben doesn't make waves. Ben doesn't speak his mind. Ben smooths things over. Ben is stuck beside Caleb for four and a half hours.

Ben's about to finally speak his mind.

  12. I really enjoyed writing these guys. Partly because t'was a queer YA about a queer kid who needed a sense of community and connection—which had nothing to do with him getting a boyfriend and included no romance for him—but mostly because "Hope Echoes" was about how we've always been here.

  13. Hey all! My #QueerYA Exit Plans for Teenage Freaks is the daily deal at Bold Strokes Books today, meaning you can nab the e-book from their webstore for $3.99 US.

  14. S is for THE SOUND OF STARS by Alechia Dow

Back to YA sci-fi and Alechia Dow's wonderful work with this alien invasion story starring a Black biromantic demisexual MC with a secret library. Also: alien/human roadtrip, lots of music and book nerdery, and an instance of two demisexual relating to each other through their aceness that was super well done.

  15. S is for SECONDHAND ORIGIN STORIES by Lee Brontide

Free book? Free book! And it is an *incredible* one. SOS (nice anagram) is a YA about the children of famous superheroes, it's got an incredible queer (& often disabled) cast, and it's full of family secrets. HIGHLY recommend!

  16. Kirkus reviewed "Stuck With You"! (And, even better? Liked it!)

"An adorable romance with strong coming-of-age elements."

  17. I have the privilege of heading to not one, not two, but three schools over the next while to talk to writers, readers, and GSAs about my hi/lo queer YA "Stuck With You" and I'm not going to lie, young me would never have believed this would be possible.

Also, young me would have noped out on public speaking, but I've learned to quite love that.

Even when a tooth falls out of my head.

  18. A quick update for my USian friends! While the release date for my #QueerYA Hi/Lo "Stuck With You" is April 4th (tomorrow!) for Canada... it releases in August in the US.

I'd been operating under the assumption that Amazon had listed it incorrectly, but, uh, nope, that was me not knowing things. So! I get to have two release dates, which is sort of cool, but the whole "uh, sorry, see you in August" factor is unexpected.

  19. NEXT WEEK!

My upbeat #queer hi/lo #YA rom-com, exploring how ridiculous it is to be 17 and expected to know where your life is going, gap years, cute boys, impact-vs-intent, biphobia, apologies, and the horrifying realization you want to kiss the boy you thought was so annoying four hours ago.
