When the Sage (still can't get used to calling it The Glasshouse) officially opened in 2004 the opening act was Luciano Pavarotti. During his warm up, in rehearsals, a strange anomaly with the building design was discovered. He stood and made his usual bird calls, thrush, sparrow, woodpecker etc; but when he came to a duck call . . .

I love the optimism of #geordies; installing sun loungers on a misley and grey #newcastle #quayside.

Here's quite a brave thing to say. Newcastle/Gateshead Quayside is, IMHO, a triumph of city planning. What was once a post-industrial dump is now a key ( 😀 quay-gerrit??) part of the city centre. It'd be nice if there was more industrial history on display, but there's some farther up river.

It has been a dank day and more #rain started soon after I set off for my #bike trip. The #River #Exe is near its maximum level by the #quayside and the #FloodReliefChannel is in operation. As I was coming to the end of the circuit, I got absolutely drenched from head to foot by a passing vehicle.

It’s the hottest day of the year so far with temperatures peaking at about 23°C. It also sunny and so in direct sunlight it is even hotter. I lost 0.6 kg of mass – almost all water – which is higher than usual. The featured #pedestrian and #cycle #bridge pictured here is called #CricklepitBridge. As you can probably see, it’s a #steel #SuspensionBridge and is a nice feature in the #quayside area of the city.
