  5. I've been using Quassel for IRC for quite some time, but its development seems to have ground to a halt. I'm considering my options. An IRC bouncer like znc? (I've used screen/tmux + irssi in the past, I'm not going back.)

I first used IRC circa 1992-1993. All of this is really starting to feel quite arcane and tedious. Run a server or use a VPS to not miss out on discussions. Ugh.

Ubuntu developers are switching to Matrix. Maybe freedesktop.org should consider that too?

  16. @jeffalyanak I just went back to Quassel as had migrated to #ZNC but had issues with my reverse proxy. To be fair it was due to the IRC protocol not forwarding through the proxy which is not ZNC's fault. But I like the Quassel mobile app more so moved back to it.

Only odd thing with #Quassel is you can't do everything in the web client, so do need to use a desktop client to add new #IRC networks and manage it properly.

  21. So #Hexchat has this weird issue; at least on my #Debian system, where navigating user interface windows will make it randomly just crash and spit out an "X window" error. #Quassel seems to work pretty good though, and looks very similar to the Hexchat layout, so I'll probably stick with it.

  26. Going back to Konversation for GUI stuffs. DCC file send/receive is kinda important to me. For everything else, including a lot of Matrix usage, WeeChat is still the Kewlist :p

https://bugs.quassel-irc.org/projects/quassel-irc/wiki/Migrating_from_Monolithic_to_Client+Core - just ain't gonna cut it right now.

    I still love HexChat.

Honorable mention goes to Halloy, which I think looks really good, supports tiling, and says it supports DCC Send - I don't mind manipulating config files by hand, and I might check it out with a FlatPak, but if I'm sufficiently impressed it looks like I'll have to build the .deb and SlackBuild myself, ... Well? Somebody's got to! Right?

  29. So is my understanding right that doesn't have a way to automatically delete old messages and they are instead stored forever and you have to manually run SQL queries to delete old messages to free up space?

  34. How to make Qt applications conform to the Gnome desktop theme

In particular, I had the Quassel IRC client stuck in light mode while everything else was dark.

    sudo apt install qt5-style-kvantum
    echo "export QT_STYLE_OVERRIDE=kvantum" >> ~/.profile

Log out and log in. Quassel should be in dark mode now, like the rest of the system.

  41. #quassel was upgraded in #Debian Testing to version 0.14 . The new version seems to be incompatible with version 0.13 (that is: a Debian Bullseye serve is now incompatible with a Debian Bookworm client).

There are no backports yet, but the new 0.14 package builds cleanly in a Bookworm chroot.

I also still have major issues using it on my #mobian on #PinePhone (works great on the my desktop).

  50. #quassel (quassel-irc.org) just brought back IRC to me!

It was very easy to setup the server instance (git.delattre.de/xamanu/docker-) and it feels like "the future", you stay connected and can use multiple clients (tried it in #Debian and #Android) at the same time.

  51. Quassel IRC Client has an option Emacs style keybindings in the input field.

  52. successfully migrated #Quassel core into a docker container on my server

  53. Just switched from #ZNC to #quassel. So nice and easy to setup
