I listened to #Quarters in the car on the way to the office.

Quarters! is a basically a Jazz album with prog rock elements, or a prog rock album with jazz elements divided into 4 quarters. Each song is 10 minutes and 10 seconds long. There's a lot of Meddle-era Pink Floyd guitar playing going on here.

I liked the first quarter "The River" best.

  4. A look inside the U.S. Mint’s creation of a quarter celebrating Ida B. Wells

This Women’s History Month, we’re taking a look at a special series of quarters honoring notable American women. This is the final year of the program, and one of the coins for 2025 features journalist and civil rights activist Ida B. Wells. John Yang reports from the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia, where the coins are being made.

  5. In Montreal it seems that bus fareboxes will accept US #quarters as Canadian quarters - a loss - but seems like the coins' similarity does mean it happens the other way in the US, which means an arbitrage opportunity...

(All my OPUS cards have expired - death to that 4-year expiry - and I don't want to buy a new one just for a few trips...)

  6. Honestly? I can't even really remember why I checked for it. Rabbit holes, you know. Let's see if we can remember, no?

#Unicodia is open in the b/g, so I was looking for glyph or something to use for an icon, most likely (knowing how i operate). Nope, it wasn't there, so I opened Andrew West's #Babelmap - nope. Not there either. I know it's a legit symbol, because it's ancient Hindi (from what I learned about it decades ago), but as #appropriated and used elsewhere since the advent of mass media, it's most commonly perceived within that context. So, it's very sour and terrible. We all know that Some people don't agree with that, or whatever, not trying to start THAT argument. My question is more "one of science".

Like a civil science. Linguistics as well. Ask #chatGPT, right? Anyway.

I sought after a proper story about what were the processes involved in removing it from the #Unicode plane, etc. (haven't made it that far yet).

I found this. After as much effort and thought I cared to expend on it, wondering: what is this guy's point? It came to me.

    Why'm I so stupid sometimes?

I wonder if the author was truly publishing from that perspective. "Let's get some hits! Can I beat my #SEO high-score from yesterday, or will it cost me more #quarters?"

  7. Yesterday in my change I got a 2023 quarter dollar with a new rendering of George Washington (facing right instead of left) and on the reverse side Bessie Coleman and the date 6.15.1921, when she became the first African American and first Native American female #pilot .

  8. Titanic/Avatar director James #Cameron and his wife, Suzy Amis Cameron, have listed their #Hollister #Ranch compound at 89 Hollister Ranch Road ($33 million).
According to the Wall Street Journal, “after buying the house [for $4.375 million in the late 1990s], they spent a year remodeling it […] installing #quartzite flooring and restoring the original, #natural #woods, which had been stained and painted.
‘The previous owner had had a lot of #marble,’ the director said. ‘We brought it back down to something that felt connected to the land.'”
It’s a full, 102-acre share; besides the main house (8,000 square feet, more or less), there’s a #guest #house, two #barns, and (per the listing) “a 4,795-square-foot #equestrian #facility that is next to the Ranch offices with #caretaker’s #quarters, including four apartments that feature six bedrooms and six bathrooms.”
