  1. 🎓 Ready to start your #Quantum learning journey?

The first learning units in our new #QuantumTech #eAcademy are out, including an intro block on Quantum Algebra and units on IBM Qiskit and ETSI standard key exchange APIs!

And many more units are in the works, covering #QuantumCommunications, #QuantumComputing, #QKD, simulation, resources, sensing and metrology, standardisation.

Use our interactive metro map to access units and to get an overview of what’s yet to come: wiki.geant.org/display/NETDEV/

  2. GÉANT, Toshiba Europe Ltd, PSNC and the Anglia Ruskin University announce the first demonstration of #QuantumKeyDistribution using telecoms standard equipment and infrastructure.

The experiment was conducted in Germany, with access to the #network infrastructure provided by #GÉANT. Communication was established over a link spanning 253.9 km between Frankfurt and Kehl with a 56.0 dB loss and a relay in Kirchfeld.

  3. Quantum Key Distribution (#QKD) brings #quantum-#security to critical communication infrastructure, and it is being increasingly deployed globally.

    #Toshiba looks at some deployment practicalities in today's fibre #networks 👉 connect.geant.org/2023/11/29/q

  4. Collectively, we aim to produce 36 online curriculum modules in #quantumcomputing and #QuantumCommunications over six years. That's enough for a quarter of the total units for an undergrad degree, enough to build a major with some flexibility.

  5. Easy-to-use, cost-effective quantum computing might still be in the future, but #quantum technologies are already being used in other fields!

On #CONNECT44, we have a closer look at #QuantumNetworking & #QuantumKeyDistribution (#QKD) and at potential uses of QKD in the GÉANT Community 👉 connect.geant.org/2023/11/09/q

This article is part of an insert fully dedicated to #QuantumCommunications on #CONNECT44 👉 connect.geant.org/connect44

  7. 839 additions, 421 deletions in the last two weeks, almost entirely by Michal...our #QuantumCommunications (#QuantumInternet) texbook is getting there! Almost every chapter has had a major rework in the last six months.

Compile it yourself from source at github.com/sfc-aqua/Overview-o if you're impatient.

  8. A point-to-point long-distance quantum key distribution (QKD) over a distance of 1,000 km has been achieved by scientists from the University of Science and Technology of China and their collaborators

  10. News 📰 | March 1st, 2023, has been the official launch of the #QuantumSecureNetworksPartnership, or #QSNP, a new project in the area of #quantumcommunications of the #QuantumFlagship. It brings together more than 40 partners from all over Europe. These experts will seek to develop advanced #quantumtechnology for quantum secure communication networks and integrate this technology into existing classical telecommunication systems and post-quantum protocols.

  11. #introduction

I lead a group in #quantum technologies at a US national lab. My background is in quantum #optics, but these days I spend my time primarily thinking about things like #QuantumComputing, #QuantumNetworks, #QuantumCommunications, #QuantumSensing, and #QuantumCryptography.

I am also an Ambassador for Optica (formerly the Optical Society or OSA). In my role as Optica Ambassador, I engage in outreach and mentorship to students and early career professionals within the optics and photonics community.
