how naïve I once was. I believed I would never stop learning. That I would never reach the level of the true seniors—those who understood the code, not just used it. But here I am. Seeing through the illusion. Like Neo, after he lost his sight.

And what a disappointment it is.
• Performance? Who cares? Hardware is cheap.
• Security? An annoying afterthought. Just ship it.
• Architecture? As long as it looks modern, it’s fine.
• Maintainability? “We’ll fix it later.” Meaning: never.

Software quality is not a goal anymore. It’s an inconvenience. We build bloated, buggy, and complex systems, but as long as they appear to work, nobody cares. No one wants to understand how their tools function—they just pick sides, like fanatics defending their favorite sports team. Maven vs. Gradle. Cloud vs. On-Prem. Java vs. Kotlin. As if these choices define them.

I see vulnerabilities. Licensing disasters. Performance nightmares. Architectural horror shows. And nobody blinks. After all, there’s always more hardware to throw at the problem.

Where did the real seniors go? The ones who questioned things? Who cared about efficiency, maintainability, and actual engineering? Are they all gone, or have they simply given up?

The next generation will inherit this mess—if they can even navigate the complexity we keep adding for no reason. And what do we do? We waste time learning flashy tools instead of mastering fundamental skills.

I wish I could help. I wish I could show people what’s wrong. But nobody listens to the internal prophet. It’s not cool to question. The industry has shifted from innovation to self-inflicted busywork.

Maybe I should stop caring too. Maybe I should just sit back and watch it all burn.

Or… is there still a way to fix this?
