  1. San Francisco got a little earthquake this weekend too. Little jolty one just now. #quakestodon

  2. @Simplicator yes, I think a few months back we dubbed it #quakestodon when we all got woken up at 4am and immediately (of course) reached for our phones

  3. @mariyadelano it’s a mix. 1) Community (both IRL friends and online friends I’ve met on the journey)—with shared interests, values, geographies. 2) High-value commentators and experts in various fields. 3) Breaking news—global, national, also hyper-local. 4) Weather and transit updates, and #quakestodon. 5) A fun timeline is a bonus for occasional mindless/bored scrolling, so in that case memes, shitposting—for that I like my app (toot!) as it lets me easily check out other local timelines.

  4. I was wearing my low powered eyeglasses and the alert gave me the minute to swap them for my distance pair and brace myself under the doorway. Would have sucked to have the world crumble around me with blurry vision #sfba #quake #earthquake #quakestodon

  5. anyone else in SF feel light shaking just now? #Quakestodon

update: looks like a 3.4 out on the peninsula!

  6. anyone else feel light shaking just now [edit: in san francisco] or was that just an especially large truck? #Quakestodon

  7. @wnknisely On Toot you you toggle over to follow the timeline of a difference instance, which makes sense given the federated system, but it works fine. I’m on a well-run general server, mas.to, but I can run over to Episcodon or my local area server, sfba, or the labor ones, both to find folks and to follow my issues, especially breaking news (like the Ferndale quake last night). Hashtags are also effective, as we’ve seen with the World Cup and last night with #quakestodon.

  8. @drewda yeah, I was definitely a bit frozen for a second when the alarm woke me. I think I had enough presence of mind to think that staying in bed wasn’t a terrible idea (like any normal SF Bay Area person, I don’t have heavy objects hanging over my bed!). And then I waited for shaking. And then I went on social media, as one does around here when an earthquake hits, lol. #quakestodon #earthquake

  9. looks like they're getting a ton of little aftershocks. fingers crossed it calms down up there soon #Quakestodon

  10. @coolgrey a bunch of folks have taken the NERT training offered by the city (SF Fire, I believe), and that includes just this kind of community-level thinking. #Earthquake #DisasterPreparedness #quakestodon

  11. @flowers I think we’d good at this point. None of us San Francisco people seem to have felt it this time. #quakestodon #earthquake #SanFrancisco #sfba
