Whoo boy, the new QST rips the #QMX+ on its six meter performance and says it “should not be used to transmit anywhere on that band” because of its spurious emissions. That’s not even all they complained about.
That will put a wet blanket on your magic July propagation. I may have to fire up groups.io to see the response.

QRP Labs is running a Hamvention special for US customers to hopefully reduce shipping costs, if FDIM or Hamvention delivery, or USPS from Ohio during Hamvention, works for you. This includes anything in their store, including radios (assembled or kit), parts, and the Morserino M32 Pocket. (Obligatory disclaimer: I'm just a customer, no stake in this...)

#SSB on the #QRPLabs #QMX+ 5W HF transceiver is just so unnecessarily painful. The built-in microphone doesn't work. Standard microphones don't work.
The very specific microphone capsule required goes for 21 € inc. shipping from Digikey. A finished microphone assembly by G7UFO is 41,85 € inc. shipping. The whole QMX+ kit is only 125 USD, on comparison.
I have revision 4 of the PCB. Really would have expected it to have been fixed to take any microphone by now, or come with the microphone.

On one instance I couldn't make an FT8 call from my station EA8/DC6ST to a Russian ham visiting Belarus because the two compound callsigns did not leave any space for signal reports or even a "73" in the message.

I think there could be a business case for #QRPLabs in selling pre-wound and calibrated coils for their products. I know lots of people who would like to build a transceiver from a kit, but investing 15-20 hours of time into a 125 USD "coil-winding training kit" does not sound that appealing when the assembled and tested product goes for 185 USD.

I built a #QRPLabs QMX+ 160-6m 5W CW/SSB/Digimode transceiver from a kit over the holidays. Would I build it again? Probably not. It took about 15 hours to build, pretty much just because one has to wind 20 tiny coils and transformers. There's not much to learn since most of the functionality is implemented in the closed-source firmware. You can also buy it pre-built and pre-tested for not that much more. Mine only puts out 3W on 20m and now I have to find out why.

Yes, I WAS trying some new power cabling I had just made and NO I didn't have it fused, but the BS170s don't seem to have fried, at least on visual inspection. It gave me a yellow/green screen of death and then would not power back on.
Any help greatly appreciated!

Weiß jemand, warum #QRPlabs aus der Türkei verschickt? Ist das für die ein so zentraler Markt? Für die EU ist das jedenfalls sehr langsam und auch teuer.
Aufgefallen war mir das jetzt, weil die das, was sie auf der Hamradio nicht hatten, von dort nachgesendet haben. Das ist schon bisschen lästig.

Best side effect of observing Hamvention activities from afar is that I learned about this cool club, 64 years young, putting out a paper magazine, and hosting some of the most exciting minds in amateur radio at Four Days in May.

I built a #QRPGuys 40-10 #Minituner a few years ago but never built a wire for it. Thanks to current #Geomagneticstorm conditions, I built a 40 -15 Meter Linked #EFHW that I can use with my #Youkits #YouKitsHB1B #HB1B and my #QRPlabs #QDX. #AmateurRadio #HamRadio is so much fun!

@bgarfoot if I can have only one, then it must do everything.
The IC-705 never appealed to me but the #ftx1 does.
If I can bring along an HT, then I would opt for the #lab599 #tx500 because of its ruggedness, and it being light weight and having a very low RX current draw.
If I want to go realy light weight, I grab the #qrplabs #qmx. Very high quality radio for small a price.
