#TIL the curate who wrote the #Hymn "Onward, Christian Soldiers" also wrote "The Book of the Were-Wolves"
AND the "training up" of his lower class teenage fiancée into suitable curate marriage material was probably part of the inspiration for #GeorgeBernardShaw 's " #Pygmalion" (they were friends in later life)
AND he taught classes with a pet bat on his shoulder
AND he's the ancestor of comedian #JoshWiddicombe

HIGGINS: Would the world ever have been made if its maker had been afraid of making trouble? Making life means making trouble. There’s only one way of escaping trouble; and that’s killing things. Cowards, you notice, are always shrieking to have troublesome people killed.
George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) Irish playwright and critic

While working on my latest novel about #cyborgs and #cultists, I came up with a side plot idea. A character in the book is directing a #musical based on George Bernard Shaw's #pygmalion. It's a modern retelling about a haughty #AI #startup founder betting a #techbro billionaire that he could turn the #llm he wrote to be a #chatbot for a florist shop into a machine capable of solving any human problem. The name of the play is "My Fair AGI." This almost sounds cooler than the novel I was writing.

#bookstodon #neurodiverse #GeorgeBernardShaw
Just finished reading #Pygmalion and am wondering who finds Henry Higgins to be some variation of neurospicy. It explains a lot of his behavior, I think, though Shaw himself (in intro and afterword) writes off his behaviour in other ways. Higgins is also a confirmed bachelor and not gay. He'd fall in the ace/aro category of written now.

So-called ‘lucky’ people tend to have more family, friends, mentors, teachers, etc. that may subconsciously 'expect' more of them and encourage curiosity / achievement.
‘Unlucky’ people may have fewer people giving them encouragement.
These persons perceived as ‘lucky' also somehow seem more enthused towards curiousity and achievement.
Then there are people who purely make ‘luck’ for themselves regardless of their environment with their own expectations.
