Lately, life has been too busy for digital game making unfortunately. So I've fallen back to an old fascination: puzzles!
I've always enjoyed making medium-easy logic puzzles, stuff for people who are puzzle curious but think they will be bad at them.
I've got a pretty good beginner meta-puzzle I've been working on for a few days. Feels good to have a project again.

I had what feels like a breakthrough on the game mechanic I'm working on! Rather than picking only one tile to add into a slot (which felt way too basic), I think I can stack them and treat them like transparent overlays. It feels like that'll really help one set of puzzles by letting me combine simpler items in more ways, but no idea how to apply it to the rest yet. Anyone know of games with a similar mechanic out there? #gamedev #puzzledesign

I've just released an updated version of my new SpinIt #WordPuzzle. It's still very much in test mode but it now has 4 (count em, 4!) different difficulty levels and they are all hosted on the same page so it's easy to swap from one to the other. "Easy Mode" is the version with the list of words are provided and takes 5 mins or so (maybe less) to complete so is fun for the commute. "Medium Mode" is new - no word list but you get the first letter plus one random letter of each word shown. It's very doable, 10-20mins to complete I'd guess. "Difficult Mode" is the original version of the game with just the first letter highlighted (it's hard but it can be done). "Impossible Mode" gives no hints whatsoever, I'm intrigued to know if it can be solved in a sensible amount of time (I suspect not). Give it a try and let me know what you think!

I've done a bit more ground work on my potential new word #puzzle #today (see https://vimeo.com/821630534) - I've generated a few hundred puzzles and set up the scripts needed to release them on a daily 'local time' basis. Next step is to combine that with the basic interface and there will be a very rough playable version to try out!

Here's a better look at the new word #puzzle that I'm working on which gives an idea of the gameplay. Imagine if you can a hybrid between a cursed #WordSearch and a broken #RubiksCube. The object of the game is to find the 5 hidden 5 letter words but to do so you need to spin the grid. Anyway, if you've got just over a minute spare then this video takes you through roughly how it will work (there's no sound, I'm not a monster).
Any thoughts anyone has gratefully received! I think it's likely still too difficult in it's current incarnation but I have a couple of ideas on how to make it easier if so.
