Missile Strike on Kyiv: Analysis of Recent Escalations
    Context
On the night of December 20, Russian occupiers launched a missile strike on Kyiv using five 9M723 ballistic missiles from the Iskander OTRK/KN-23 system. All ballistic targets were intercepted. Simultaneously, Russian MiG-31K interceptors, carriers of the Kh-47M2 "Kinzhal" missiles, were airborne, simulating launches.

This act of terror, another war crime by Putin's regime, was preceded and, in some ways, foreshadowed by a series of interconnected events. Before delving into those, let us address the latest wave of disinformation being spread by Russian propaganda.

    Debunking the Disinformation
A narrative is circulating online that the strike on Kyiv occurred because the war criminal Vladimir Putin was "offended" by being called a "moron" and an "old cretin" at the official level the day before. Supposedly, the "offended moron" and "old cretin," with teary eyes, ordered the strike out of spite.

In reality, this is fake news and manipulation. Such strikes cannot be ordered and executed within a few hours.

These operations are planned in advance, with precise target selection, allocation of ammunition, calculation of launch platforms and flight zones, preparation of flight missions for aerial carriers, and route planning for kamikaze drones. Thus, the Russian psychological operation about the "offended Putin" aims to shift responsibility for the attack from the war criminal to Ukraine's president, suggesting he "shouldn't have insulted" Putin.

    Strategic Timing and Intent
This strike was premeditated and was intended as an accompaniment to yesterday's "Putin Q&A," during which he openly threatened Kyiv with a mythical "Oreshnik" missile, rambling about a "duel" in a delusional tirade. By the night of December 20, ballistic 9M723 missiles from the Iskander OTRK were launched instead of the fictional "Oreshnik," for obvious reasons.

During yesterday's broadcast, Putin not only admitted to starting the war against Ukraine because he was "bored" and wanted "some action," but he also revealed his unwillingness to end it. This underscores a well-known truth, yet to be fully grasped across the Atlantic: What negotiations can be held with such a figure?

    Implications
For Putin, the priority has always been and will always remain territorial expansion and spreading terror. This maniac can only be stopped by direct force, not by a piece of paper with vague "guarantees."
