"U.S.-funded contraceptives worth nearly $10 million are being sent to France from Belgium to be incinerated, after Washington rejected offers from the United Nations and family planning organisations to buy or ship the supplies to poor nations, two sources told Reuters.
A spokesperson for the U.S. State Department confirmed to Reuters on Wednesday that a decision had been taken to destroy the stock.
The supplies have been stuck for months in a warehouse in Geel, a city in the Belgian province of Antwerp, following President Donald Trump's decision to freeze U.S. foreign aid in January.
They comprise contraceptive implants and pills as well as intrauterine devices to help prevent unwanted pregnancies, according to seven sources and a screengrab shared by an eighth source confirming the planned destruction.
The U.S. government will spend $167,000 to incinerate the stocks at a facility in France that handles medical waste, the U.S. State Department confirmed.
The spokesperson said that a preliminary decision had been made to destroy certain products from terminated U.S. Agency for International Development contracts.
'Only a limited number of commodities have been approved for disposal,' the spokesperson said via email, adding that no condoms or HIV medications would be destroyed.
U.S. lawmakers have introduced two bills this month to prevent the destruction of the supplies following Trump's decision to shut down USAID, but aid groups say the bills are unlikely to be passed in time to stop the incineration.
The Belgian foreign ministry said Brussels had held talks with U.S. authorities and 'explored all possible options to prevent the destruction, including temporary relocation.'

In 1596, certain leaders were asked to investigate the demonic possession of 13-year-old Thomas Darling. Among these leaders was one Edward Wightman. Make a note of that as it will come up later. Another name to note is John Darrell. Darrell will be fairly central to our story.
Before we go any further, you should probably know that the Puritans did not believe that the reformation had gone far enough. They wished to flush out the last vestiges of Catholicism in the church. Also, being a witch was illegal.
On 17 February, 1596 Thomas Darling began to have a series of fits which were to continue throughout the next five months. Earlier on this day he had come across an old woman in a wood wearing a grey gown with three warts upon her face. As he passed by her, he passed wind, to which she responded, ‘Gyp with a mischief, and fart with a bell. I will go to Heaven, and you will go to Hell.’ Suspicion for having bewitched Thomas fell on the sixty-year-old Alice Gooderidge who, like her mother Elizabeth Wright, had long been suspected of devilish practices. She was arrested and confined in Derby gaol on 14 April.

It is Puritan exorcist, John Darrell, who is credited with diagnosing the names of the devils – Glassap and Radalphu – who were driven out through prayer and fasting.
Of course, nothing is so straightforward, and Darling faced repossession in the days that followed. Thus, doubt was cast over the work of Darrell and others involved.
No matter what happened next, someone was going to be cross about it. You see, many of the bigger gangs claimed the only power to fight devils. They could not all be correct. One S. Harsnett (who we will get to soon), said exorcist John Darrell was a big fat fake.
Thomas Darling resisted the reported repossession, claiming he was engaged in a series of spiritual wars. These wars featured demonic and angelic voices.
As I know at this present for a certainty, that I have the spirit of God within me: so do I with the like certainty believe, that in my dialogues with Satan, when I [quoted] sundry places of scripture, to withstand the temptations he assaulted me with: I had the spirit of God in me, and by that spirit resisted Satan at those times, by [quoting] the scriptures to confound him.

This was a big old problem, as Darling was claiming unmediated spiritual intervention with the aid of the established church. This was impossible to the established order and not exactly in line with Puritan teachings either. No matter who you asked, there was heresy all over the place.
This case led to some hot debate about which church, if any, had the power to cast out evil spirits. The Puritians claimed that the age of miracles had passed, which made the whole case problematic for them. The Roman Catholic church claimed sole authority, but the Anglicans (church of England) also claimed such authority. George More publicly suggested that if the Anglicans had such authority, then the Catholics were a false church.
Though the Puritians claimed that the age of miracles was past, they still wanted to claim ownership over exorcism via prayer, fasting, and reading the Bible. After all, if they could drive out devils, then God approved of the Puritans. The debate soon settles along faction lines as to who was right and who was a big fat fibber.
You might have thought this was the story suitable for a slocky horror movie, but no, this is a story of politics and power among a fragmenting Christian community. It would only be a matter of time until someone got so upset that someone else got killed.
Edward Wightman would later be the last person lit on fire for heresy in England. His participation in the Thomas Darling case is sometimes cited as an important step towards this fate. We will look at Wightman in a separate heresy post.
As for Thomas Darling, he continued to be a bit of a troublemaker maker but that is a story for another time.

Earlier on this day he had come across an old woman in a wood wearing a grey gown with three warts upon her face. As he passed by her, he passed wind, to which she responded, ‘Gyp with a mischief, and fart with a bell. I will go to Heaven, and you will go to Hell.’ Suspicion for having bewitched Thomas fell on the sixty-year-old Alice Gooderidge who, like her mother Elizabeth Wright, had long been suspected of devilish practices. She was arrested and confined in Derby gaol on 14 April.

It is Puritan exorcist, John Darrell, who is credited with diagnosing the names of the devils – Glassap and Radalphu – who were driven out through prayer and fasting.
Of course, nothing is so straightforward, and Darling faced repossession in the days that followed. Thus, doubt was cast over the work of Darrell and others involved.
No matter what happened next, someone was going to be cross about it. You see, many of the bigger gangs claimed the only power to fight devils. They could not all be correct. One S. Harsnett (who we will get to soon), said exorcist John Darrell was a big fat fake.
Thomas Darling resisted the reported repossession, claiming he was engaged in a series of spiritual wars. These wars featured demonic and angelic voices.
As I know at this present for a certainty, that I have the spirit of God within me: so do I with the like certainty believe, that in my dialogues with Satan, when I [quoted] sundry places of scripture, to withstand the temptations he assaulted me with: I had the spirit of God in me, and by that spirit resisted Satan at those times, by [quoting] the scriptures to confound him.

As the age of movies draws to a close, the boys at RLM are happy to have a very large collection of trash films that have been produced and released in the decades past. Films made by weird independent studios, cheapskate con-artists, and legit insane people. Exploitation films, movies with confusing plots, weird filmmaker visions that make no sense, embarrassing performances, terrible films made for the sole purpose so a perverted old man can open-mouth kiss an uncomfortable and disgusted young woman, awful discount and often reused visual FX, and some of the world’s ugliest people. Needless to say, unless you’re Donald Farmer, they don’t make them like they used to. Films today are made by Studios, Netflix, Amazon, etc and undergo a rigorous procedural vetting process. Algorithm compliance, plot beats calculated by computers to maximum engagement statistical sever product farming, actors and actresses that are “comfortable” and “safe” on set (if there is a set). Committees of lawyers, writers, producers and input content analytical engineers who have MBA and degrees from MIT to computer calculate the ultimate streaming product that will provide maximum efficiency for the data and number crunchers to release and stream said products to shareholder satisfaction.
Thankfully, time has not eroded away our VHS and DVDs that showcase a magical time when artists took risks. Made a movie based on a singular weird idea that wasn’t tested before a focus group. These movies are real, raw, and disturbing, but often magical. When we pop a tape in or a DVD we never really know what’s going to happen. I’m glad you are all here to join us on this seemingly never-ending adventure into 1s and 0s and magnetic tape stock to discover what humans have created before the dark times. Before the Empire.
Also Rich Evans is now wearing a toupee. Now THAT’S embarrassing.

In some IRC channel I frequent there is a user who calls Japanese cartoons something like "degenerate art". Not in these words, but it feels about the same. You would find this kind of words in Gestapo documents and National Socialist propaganda, or said by one of those Communist commissars… but the user hails from the USA. It is very strange. To think that in the "Land of The Free" there are such beings such as these.
