  4. Looking forward to trolling my colleagues with diagrams made using this template. My excuse? I was denied a licence for #LucidChart. #VintageComputing #Flowchart #PunchedCard #PunchedTape #DrumDisk #MagneticTape

  5. 🔎🧵 A photo of the first attempt at reading punched tape - manually unwinding it captured in the form of a video. The software (still) doesn't support this (you have to export it as images), but it wouldn't be difficult to implement.

  6. I could successfully connect an #arduino Nano 33 IOT at the output of the #punchedtape reader. I am still manually pulling the tape. I think I get a parity error when there are some misalignments. I think it can be solved! It’s a really fun project and I like how it is coming together. #retrocomputing

  7. I built a small reading circuit with some comparators. LM393s work well at 3.3V and are easy to source. I will try to connect an #Arduino soon to decode the flow of data. #punchedtape.

  8. My mother got her MSc. more than 50 years ago. She was a sort of a pioneer as she run climate models on computers. I remember we had #punchedcards (that were unfortunately lost in a flood many years ago). She has found a #punchedtape a few weeks ago. I remember back when I was a kid I wanted to build a system to read it. It may become an interesting project… #vintagecomputing
