  4. "Across the world, #surveillance #technology – often made by #siliconvalley and sold with the U.S. government’s blessing despite sanctions – is increasingly monitoring the moves of citizens who have done nothing wrong. The consequences of getting caught in this expanding digital cage can be dire." #pulitzerprize apnews.com/surveillance-digita

  8. In its application to the Pulitzer board for work produced in 2025, the Star Tribune noted the newsroom decided early on that it wouldn’t let the shooting be easily forgotten as just one more American tragedy. Instead, the staff would “hold up Annunciation’s pain and ask our readers to reckon with it.”

Several reporters live in the south Minneapolis neighborhood near the school or attend church at Annunciation. One editor’s child was in the service.

“For the journalists in our newsroom, it was personal and up-close,” said Kathleen Hennessey, editor and senior vice president of the Minnesota Star Tribune. “I’d be crazy to say in a newsroom full of parents, it didn’t hit a certain nerve.”

  10. Master Slave Husband Wife

The 2024 Pulitzer Prize winner for Biography by Ilyon Woo that tells the story of Ellen & William Craft + their escape from slavery in 1848 Georgia. Ellen, whose father was a white plantation owner was enslaved by her half sister, working as a seamstress + house servant. William, her husband, worked as a hired out carpenter for his master. Ellen who was extremely light skinned disguised herself as a wealthy southern planter while William portrayed her slave in order to make their escape. The 1st half of this book is a gripping tale - the 2nd half however looses the thread as Ellen + William travel to England - their story gets lost amid the politics + the stories of other abolitionist who help them on their journey.

  12. 📚 I recently finished reading The Warmth Of Other Suns - the story of the Great Migration, the movement of Black Americans out of the South from about 1915 to 1970 - by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Isabel Wilkerson. Telling the story through the eyes of 3 people who experienced that journey made for a moving + enlightening read. 📚
