I hate to say this was not the greatest finale
first of all, I like the choice of having the whole show's opening constantly tease you at madoka finally turning into a magical girl, when it only really happens in this very last episode (excluding past timelines shown in ep10)
madoka turning into a goddess was to be expected at this point in the story, but I didn't really expect them to pull what's practically a universe reset card after that
universe reset that wasn't the greatest writing choice, I feel: we see that mankind pretty much evolves towards the same exact direction, same exact characters and all (except for madoka, her absence IS a bit bittersweet).. idk, I feel like they should've had madoka simply erase all witches from that moment onwards, rather than including the past, as that pretty much calls for a COMPLETE world reset a la jojo p6-to-7
the episode also keeps a weirdly positive mood throughout most of its duration, it's only at the very end that we're told about wraiths taking the place of witches
I think this thing of madoka's wish being naive enough to effectively change nothing should've been hammered home FAR harder, it would've felt more at home in such an otherwise-tragic show
overall, I think this final episode was kind of a big wasted opportunity, but I'm still looking forward to checking out the movies in the near future (yes, including the two recap ones as I'll probably put the franchise on hold until january or so, so to shorten as much as possible the time between watching the 3rd - currently latest - movie and watching the upcoming 4th)
still a very good show in its greatest moments, would absolutely recommend

the backstory of kyubey's race interacting with humans for millennia and enabling them to evolve was pretty cool
I also like the explicit mention of emotion indeed existing within kyubey's race, but in the form of a mental disorder - until now kyubey just kinda said in ep9 that his species figured out humans were a good tool to maintain energy balance in the universe because of emotion, but it sounded like they discovered that last concept only with humans, and gave their invention of magical girls as a solution shaky foundations at best
I'm not gonna say anything about homura telling madoka what she's been doing for the past several timelines cause uhh idk that was played fairly straight, nothing I feel the need to yap over. it did kinda lack the intensity to make me shed a tear in a moment that seemed geared towards that kinda viewer reaction though
I REALLY like the explanation of why madoka is expected to be such a super talented magical girl, tying it all to homura rewinding the timeline over and over for her was great (and you can kinda imply it from the ep10 flashbacks where madoka is instead on the verge of death after the walpurgis fight)
the walpurgis (walpurgisnacht seems to refer specifically to the day the walpurgis is fated(?) to come down?) design was cool; I read on wikipedia earlier today that the walpurgisnacht irl is a religious festival more or less, so it was cool to see they designed its witch around a festival theme
homura v walpurgis was.. not as good as the previous fights in the show??? idk, it didn't particularly go hard cause for the first half, homura has complete knowledge of what it's gonna do and is just setting off the traps she prepared, then she's taken offguard by the walpurgis not dying after all that and most of the fight moves offscreen. by the time we cut back to homura she's already pretty much done to leave the stage for madoka so it's not really super tense or anything, disappointingly

gotta admit, I.. didn't really like the motivation for kyubey's actions
making it about keeping enough energy in the universe and bringing up that magical girls defy the laws of thermodynamics or whatever is quite bad pseudoscience slop

finished ep8 we got a bit of an edgy character arc here but it reveals interesting stuff
I gotta say I quite like pmmm's magic system, even the more conventional concepts are presented uniquely enough to spawn entirely new mechanics you don't see elsewhere

finished ep6 earlier, this is REALLY starting to get into one-episode-pulls-the-next territory but I'm forcing myself to 2eps/day since the show is short enough on its own

So, I've binged Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime + Rebellion.
Yep, it's great. Near the end of the anime it has one of the best fights I've ever seen.
Also, the English dub of the main cast is simply amazing.
Can't wait for Walpurgisnacht Rising which will probably take a while before we get a Blu-ray release with eng dub...

just downed 4 pmmm eps, and yeah the presentation is VERY good, I really like the unconventional artstyles used in witches' barriers (the animation felt.. eh? in the first one with the collage-y theme, but it's definitely getting better with every new barrier)
the plot felt relatively chill at first, but after a couple eps you can start feeling the darker stuff creeping in
I also really appreciate how the characters aren't dumbasses and don't immediately do stupid things to speed up plot development
obviously I couldn't help but notice some similarities with - you guessed it - jjk, particularly the parallels you can draw between witch barriers and innate domains, grief seeds and cursed wombs and whatnot
hell a whole episode gives strong cursed womb arc vibes
anyway yeah I think this will be a really good watch
